CHILDER'S BARN, SOLD

My husband and I spend several weeks every year in Western North Carolina where we have a vacation home. This farm is just down the road from us. I did take an artistic license and remove a mountain to make a better composition. Leave a comment if you are interested in purchasing this 11x14 painting and we'll talk.

ON THE ROCKS - SOLD

Remember Tropical Storm Fay? Well, I spent my "Fayday" painting. Yes, one more painting of my granddaughter. She seems to strike a pose every time I see her. She is my muse! This time she is sitting on a rock, next to the river in North Carolina, waiting for rafters to run the rapids. If you are interested in purchasing this 16x20 painting, please contact me for pricing information.

HEAR ME ROAR!

36 hours and 25-30 inches of rain later, life is returning to normal. Tropical storm Fay continues to terrorize Florida but, thankfully, it has moved out of our area. I pity the people in her path!

As promised, I have posted a pastel of my granddaughter as she looked last year. Full of strength and with high expectations. How wonderful to be a teenager today! She took this photo herself.

TROPICAL STORM FAY

Today is a rather depressing day. Tropical Storm Fay has been sitting over our house for 18 hours so far. If you have never been in a tropical storm or hurricane, count yourself as lucky. This storm was not supposed to come to us but, yesterday it made an unexpected turn. By then it was too late to prepare as we were already getting lots of rain. The next 24 were full of lots of wind and rain but we went to bed with high hope that things would be improved (or maybe even over) by morning. No such luck. Fay does not want to move and has settled in long term. So far we have had 12 inches of rain in 24 hours and they are telling us to expect another 7-10 inches. Our road is flooded and our septic has failed! Thank God we still have power, but that is iffy too. Nothing to do today but paint as long as I have light. Could be worse! The photo is the view from our front door this morning. What! No paper delivery!

This painting is 8x10. It is my granddaughter playing dress up years ago. My next post will be a pastel of Courtney the way she looks today.

THE BIG CHOCOLATE FISH, SOLD

Well, I guess this is a little unusual as far as subject matter goes. My daughter and I were in Paris earlier this year, staying in an apartment in the Saint Germaine area. Every morning we would go down the street to check in with home on the internet. Next door was a wonderful chocolate shop. We had to go in. The owner was so very nice and would bring out sample after sample of his wonderful sweets. He had this really cool fish on display and after checking it out day after day, I finally shot a photo of it. So, if your life will not be complete without a big (9x12) chocolate fish in your home, he can come to stay with you for $225, includes shipping.

NANTAHALA RAPIDS

We visit western North Carolina several times a year. These are the Class III rapids near Nantahala Outdoor Center. When I went whitewater rafting there, I fell out way before we got this far. You have never felt such COLD water! For the complete story (with photos, before and after) click on the link to my website and then the Pieces of Eight Summer Vacation link. Anyway, this is one of my larger pieces, 30x40, in oil.

BLUE HERON - SOLD

These days I paint primarily in oils, but I also enjoy pastels. When I have a pastel on the easel I find I have to stop and study it each time I walk by. I always get inspired, pick up a pastel and off I go. When I paint in oils, it's not that easy to be spontaneous. The down sides to pastels, in my opinion, are of course the dust and the framing issues. Not to mention my hands get really, really dirty. Still, the pure color and sparkle can not be duplicated. This 12x12 was painted on Canson paper.
