Tropical Landscape Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Sunset in the Wetlands", 6x8" Oil Painting

This tropical landscape painting depicts the sinking sun and reflections on one of Florida's many waterways. This particular wetland is located between Florida's intracoastal waterway to the west and the Atlantic on the east, on the barrier island that runs down the east coast of Florida. It's a particularly fascinating place as the two bodies of water are less than 1/2 mile apart.

I am just returned from a month in our North Carolina mountain home.  We usually don't stay that long, so, this time I took all my painting supplies and was determined to paint while there.  I finally accomplished this painting, but let me tell you it was not easy.  I could not find the perfect lighting, the perfect place to work (we just put in all new flooring which would not look good with oil paint splattered all over it).  All in all, I did not feel comfortable and was sooooo happy to return to my studio in Florida.  This is something I will have to get used to as we will be spending much more time in the mountains than in past years.  Studio painters (like me) get so spoiled.....I almost wish I were a plein aire painter who can paint anywhere and under any conditions.

Have a happy day today!

BEWARE OF WHAT YOU BUY......OR SELL

Today's post is not a celebration of art, but a warning to all of you who post your work online.

It has come to my attention that a site called  UnitedArtworks.net has pirated five pieces of my original art.  Four of my compositions have been repainted and are being sold in various sizes by this organization.
Pirated by UnitedArtworks.com

Pirated by United Artworks.com

Pirated by United Artworks.com

Pirated my UnitedArtworks.com

The fifth is a piece that is impossible to duplicate, as it was created with a pouring technique, instead of a brush.  They are listing this piece as an original also, but they must be selling it as a giclee'.

What to do?    Watermarks don't help.  They are stealing the compositions and re-painting them.  I have contacted the organization and asked that they remove my pieces.  Will that help?  Threats of lawsuits?  Not with an international company.

The best we can do is put the word out.  Police these sites, look for your work. protest, protest, protest.....and PUT THE WORD OUT!  You may not find you work there today.....but, what about tomorrow!

UPDATE:  After posting on many sites on facebook. including United Artworks page, I heard from this company.  They have removed my compositions from their site, as well as the work of two other artists that contacted me with the same issue.

So, if this happens to you.  DON"T GIVE UP, even if the offender is on the other side of the world....there is hope.

Marsh Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Marshlands", 6x8" Oil

This painting was inspired by a trip to the marshes at Fernandina Beach. Fl.  If you have never been to Fernandina Beach, I highly recommend it.  You will see a small quaint Florida town, marshes and beautiful coastline.  It's a short drive to Jacksonville.

One of the charming restaurants.

I never pass up a trip to the beach.  Our hotel was right there.

We had a great lunch in a wonderful garden setting.

Did I forget to mention the lighthouse overlooking the marsh?

Tree painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" Oil Landscape SOLD

We are rather tree challenged here in Florida.  We have beautiful palm trees, but when it comes to the huge leafy trees of my childhood, in the north, not so much.

Enter the live oak.  It's big, not really that leafy, but long, long beautiful branches, often draped with Spanish moss.

SOLD
This one is just a baby, but I couldn't resist painting it as it seemed to glow in the sunshine.

I painted with a combination of palette knife and brush which gave it a yummy texture.

I want to do more tree studies.  They are all so unique and so beautiful.

Beautiful flowers of North Carolina

Last month we were enjoying our condo in North Carolina, trying to get it ready for visits from family and friends.  It is so beautiful here during at least three of the four seasons.  I have not been here in winter and cannot speak to that, although I imagine the snow covered mountains would be a sight to behold.

On this trip, there are flowers blooming everywhere.  Each morning, I set out for a walk, with my trusty camera in hand.  Come along with me.......

A garden of hosta
Calla Lily
Rose abound!
Begonia
A cute little playhouse, or maybe a gardening shed?
Sit for a moment and enjoy the scenery.
Mountains surround the area,
Who knew day lilies grown wild?
I love purple flowers.  Do you know their name?

My goal is to interpret many of these scenes in oil in the comming months

Small Seascape, Daily Painting,, Small Oil Painting, "Favorite Beach", 6x8" Oil

Few things in life are as soothing to me as watching clouds move over the mountains.  Walking on the beach is  one of those things.  What is it about these scenes  that makes them so appealing?

Is it the endless repetition?  Rather hypnotising, don't you think?  Maybe it is the everlasting beauty of the scenes.....the permanence.

I don't have the answer, but I know I know I enjoy painting the scenes almost as much as being there, taking a deep breath of that sea breeze or crisp mountain air.

Enjoy the day....whereever you are!

Floral Still Life on Linen, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Mary's Vase" 9x12" Oil

I did this painting a few weeks ago with my paint group, Pieces of Eight.  Mary brought in a set up of fresh flowers and her favorite vase.

I wanted to keep it free and loose, so I started painting with both and palette knife and a brush.  I was painting on a linen covered panel, and left much of the background unpainted for added texture and interest.

I have never seen a mum in this colors before, white petals and a purpley blue center.  This is where the knife action came in.

Thank you Mary, for bring these beautiful fresh flowers and thank you to all who are reading my blog today.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Small Flower Painting, "Country Style" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil on Panel

When I am in Florida, I go to the store, purchase flowers, bring them home and try to arrange them perfectly in a beautiful vase.

110 plus shipping
When I am in North Carolina, I go to the garden, or just pick some wildflowers, plop them in a small milk bottle or jelly jar.......that's what I call "Country Style".

I tried to keep that laid back feel in the painting too, using both a brush and a palette knife.

Then, I brought it back to Florida, to remind me to relax and chill now and then.

Thanks for reading my blog today.  I hope you get to "chill" a little too.

Rose Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8 Knife Oil Painting, Rose still life SOLD

I am trying to improve my knife techniques and came up with this piece last week.

SOLD
I was slinging paint with my knife and kept it free and clean....so much fun!  I wanted to keep it loose and informal.

I like to show my small paintings in a black frame.  I think it shows most paintings well and really help the colors to pop.  Frames should accentuate the painting, but distract from it.

You may remember this companion piece, that I posted a few days ago.

Have a great day, and thanks for reading my blog.
