Daily Painting, Sunset Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Marsh Sky", 11x14x1.5" Landscape Oil Painting SOLD

Life here in the mountains, of North Carolina, is a slower pace for me,  But the days are quickly getting shorter and shorter.  The leaves are beautiful, my favorite time of year!  It reminds me of my childhood days in northern Ohio, burning leaves, apple cider, hay rides.  I wonder if people still do those things.

I am still busy, painting commissions, but I managed to paint this 11x14x1.5" landscape,  It is a study for a commission.

SOLD
It is not easy capturing that "glow" from a beautiful sunset, and I am not sure I succeded here. but it is a start.

Abstract Triptych, Green, Yellow, Blue, Gray, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x18" Oil

This was a commission that I delivered recently.  My client always knows exactly what she wants, and is able to articulate her desires to me......that makes her the perfect client!

When she first contacted me, she was intrigued with this abstract work of mine.

SOLD
She wanted the square look, but in a 20x60" format.  I was puzzled by how to do that, but came up with this small study.

After a little more communication, we came up with the this triptych below.

6x18"

The finished artwork, is 60" wide, and I was unable to get a good image of the three canvases side by side, so, this is actually a small study I did for her.  She loved it!

It was a fun project to work on.

Floral Still Life, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Flower Still Life, 12x12x1.5" Oil, "Garden Bounty"

I picked these flowers (peony and hydrangea)  from my garden, and placed them in sunlight.

I have to admit, I struggled with this piece.  I started with a brush, but after much frustration, I turned to my trusty palette knife.  In the end, I am happy with the values, and the glow on the hydrangea on the rigfht.  And the colors, love the colors.  In fact, the more I look at it....the happier I get!

So the moral of this story is, don't give up!

Happy Birthday to my daughter, Shelly!

Last month my daughter, grandson, husband and I, traveled to Colorado for a great family vacation.  Since today is my daughter's birthday, I thought I would share a few photos of our trip.

We loved the mountains and the prairie.

It was hard for my brain the comprehend that I was looking at snow, when it was over 90 degrees.

Here we all are, at Garden of the Gods outside of Colorado Springs.  Just stunning landscapes!

Riding over the gourge.  Nope....not me!

Although we lived in Colorado for a short time, and many years ago, we never were able to travel the state.  It has such varied landscapes and beauty in every direction.

Happy Birthday, Shelly!  Dad and I are so happy we were able to share this wonderful week with you and Kevin.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Mountain Landscape Painting, 6x8" Oil, "High in the Sky"

If you live in Colorado, you probably don't consider 6,000+ feet as high in the sky.  That is the altitude of Water Rock Knob, North Carolina, which is depicted in this daily painting

I returned from a week touring Colorado.  It is incredibly beautiful and wild.  Where else can you go to see a herd of antelope grazing, or big horn sheep!  The prairie is as gorgeous as the mountains.  I wasn't expecting the beauty of rolling hills, of mother deer with their fawns walking through the waist high grasses.

But this painting is from a kinder, gentler mountain.  What is high in the Blue Ridge is a starting point in the Rockies!  I love both places.  Being a flatlander, I feel blessed to be able to visit these stunning landscapes.

Small Seascape, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Churning", 6x8" Oil SOLD

This small seascape is a study for a much larger piece.  The only question in my mind is "How large?"

SOLD
I am very happy with the understated color which makes the brighter hues really pop.  I am not sure if it would be call an abstract or impressionistic.......what do you think?

What I do know, I really enjoyed painting it and want to try it again and go BIG!
