YOU GUESSED IT!, 5X7, ABSTRACT, OIL,SOLD

Yes, it's another marsh scene. I really am begining to enjoy these abstracts. Have I convinced anyone else to give it a try? It really is very freeing and for me, I nice change of pace from my usual struggles. Not that I would want to do only this, but, when I am able to turn one out that isfresh and has pleasing colors and values it seems to help me get ready to do my "real" paintings.

  1. This is wonderful. So fresh,so soft, so marshy, so wonderfully abstract! And the dark hill in the background really works. I tend to think as you do that my "real" work is more labored and intensive and somehow more serious. I don't think you can get much more real than this. I think we can learn a lot from these pictures that are more spontaneous. Maybe the trick is to combine the two styles.

  2. Yes, Catherine, you got it! That is exactly what I am trying to do, and it is working. I find that my impressionistic painting is getting fresher with less detail, relying more on value change and less on fussiness.

  3. I agree with Katheryn Jeffrey (see above comment). My pastel landscapes are sort of representational, impressionistic with a tendency toward abstract. I need to be more spontaneous. I will venture out and see where that tendency leads me. Thank you Carol, beautiful work.
