It's a small  view of the ocean from east central Florida.  I love the repetitive action of the waves and could watch them roll into the beach for hours at a time.

It works well, just sitting on a shelf with a seashell or another reminder of your last trip to the tropics.

The scene extends around the sides of the canvas, so no framing is required.

I took a trip to Jetty Park at Pt. Canaveral the other day.

  That's where all the cruise ships dock and head out to the islands.  The weather was perfect, mid 70's, and I came home feeling like I had been on a little mini vacation.  Maybe this small seascape painting will help you to feel that way too.

This daily painting is about winter.  It has been a tough winter so far.  Here in Florida, we have had beautiful weather the last few months, but the hardships of winter up north were made apparent to me when a friend sent a photo of their home.

 I remember scenes like this from my childhood, but with the milder weather we have had the last 30-40 years, I somehow thought those days were gone.

Pear Still Life Painting, Daily Painting, "Pink Pear" by Carol Schiff, 5x7" Oil

I painted this pear still life a few years ago and recently found it my studio.  It was a fun piece to do.  I wanted to experiment with color and bold negative shape.

I placed the pear on a window sill with strong sunlight pouring in behind it.  Then the fun started.  I took a photo, uploaded it and started playing with color and contrast on the screen.  A great exercise, give it a try some time

My customer had seen a larger painting of mine that was very similar to this one.  She contacted me and asked me to paint this hibiscus for her in a small size.  I was happy to help her out.

FUN FACTS.  Did you know.......Zebras coats are just black...their undercoats have white stripes!  Strange but, true.

It's in the thirties as I write this.(I actually wrote this on 1/07/14)  I know, I know, you are at 50 below, but this is FLORIDA!  Fortunately for us, we only have one day of weather in the 50's and tomorrow they are forecasting 70's with 80's by the end of the week.  No wonder, Florida is now the third largest state in population!

We spend a lot of time in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, and usually the streams and rivers are full of ducks and Canadian geese. I found this Mallard in the beautiful park at Cherokee, NC.
