Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Small Floral Still Life, "Garden Treasures" , 8x10 Still Life SOLD

I have been doing lots of florals lately.  It seems I cycle in my work, doing several abstracts, or seascapes or landscapes, until, finally, something else inspires me and I move to another subject.  Probably, because of spring and summer, flowers have my attention now.

SOLD

Last winter, we purchased a vacation condo in Waynesville, NC, smack in the middle of the Smoky Mountains.  When we returned in the spring, imagine my surprise, to find we had also acquired a flourishing flower garden.  I love flowers, but I did not imagine my time there being spent pulling weeds and deadheading!  As my husband says, "it is what it is" so when we return there soon, gardening tools will be included in our luggage.

The up side of the story, is the pleasure I get from the gorgeous flowers.  Each time we visit, a new surprise awaits.  We have ferns and dogwood, Japanese maple, lily, bleeding heart  and roses.  I cannot wait to see what will be in bloom on my next trip.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Rose Still Life, Small Floral Still Life, "Mother's Rose" SOLD by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil

On this small oil painting, I tried to capture the beauty and feel of this lovely flower, without being too worried about duplicating the actual image. I painted with a knife and worked hard to keep my colors clean and my strokes pure. The knife has left a lot of texture to the piece that makes you want to reach out a touch it. I think it has a wild feel, which is just what I was working towards. The colors of pinks, purples and greens work well together with a touch of orange.

SOLD

I thoroughly  enjoyed this painting, so much so, that I painted a second in the same manner.  I will post the second painting next week.  I plan to try more of the same in the future.

Thanks for reading my blog today.

Figurative Painting, Central Park Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Another Thinker", 6x8" Oil

Last year, my daughter, grandson and I spent a few days in Manhattan.  After a long, hard day of exploring, we ended up in Central Park.  Central Park is such a welcoming oasis in the middle of all the heat, noise, hustle and bustle.

SOLD
My daughter climbed up on a rock to sit and rest,  She was deep in thought when I snapped her photo.  I could not help but be reminded of another famous "thinker".

We had a great time in Manhattan, especially by grandson.  It was his first time in the BIG city!

Keeping his finger on everything........

His debut on a sports TV show (He is not at the desk....notice the guy posing behind the window!)

Spending a little time with Teddy Roosevelt.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Blue Paintings

I like to post on facebook, as I am sure many of you do too.  I started a group called "Online Artists" to give self-representing artists another place to post their work.  Every week I "suggest" a theme for the artists to follow, although it is not mandatory by any means.  A few times, the theme has been a specific color, which I really enjoyed.  So today, I decided to post "blue" paintings for you here.

Swirls
8x10x.75"
I really had fun with this textured piece!

Geisha
6x8" canvas panel

What is it about oriental culture that is so fascinating?

Blue Lagoon
6x8" on canvas panel
A view of the intracoastal waterway in Grant Florida.  This is close to my home.

Mountain Farm
8x10" canvas panel
A view of our neighbor's farm in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina.  One of the most beautiful scenes on earth, I have painted this farm dozens of times.

Misty Morning
12x12x1.5" canvas
The mountains are absolutely gorgeous when the sun comes up and burns off the morning mist.

A Touch of Blue
6x8" on canvas panel
A Florida sky.  The coastal areas are often filled with fluffy clouds as the afternoon hot air from the west collides with the cool sea breezes from the east.

Candlestick with Palm Shadows
4x12x1.5" canvas

I love to set objects on my windowsill in front of these cool shadows from a palm tree.

Antique Bottles
8x10 canvas panel
 From my antique bottle collection.

Seascape with sunset
11x14x1.5" canvas

I had to put a seascape in here somewhere!

Well, that's it for celebrating blue today!  I hope you will join us on facebook.  Just go to your account and search for Online Artists.  We would love to have you join in the fun.

I hope you have BLUE skies today.

Thank you for reading my blog.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Painting On Sale, Teapot Painting "Yellow teapot with palm shadows" 8x10 oil

Every Wednesday, I try to list a painting on sale, for the readers of this blog.  Today I have a teapot painting.

purchase here
119. + shipping
I like to collect teapots and I like to paint them.  Maybe a little odd for someone who does not drink tea!  There is just something about them that is very appealing to me.

I set this little yellow teapot on a windowsill and it was immediately covered with the most interesting  shadows, cast from a palm tree outside the window.

This is an 8x10" oil on canvas panel, originally priced at $150.00

Beach Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Caribbean" by Carol Schiff, 16x20,1.5" Oil SOLD

Have you ever been to the Islands?  In Florida "the Islands" can only mean one thing.....any of those gorgeous, laid-back, tropical paradise places starting with the Abaco's Islands to the north and extending down the coast of South American to Granada.

The water color is amazing and I never get tired of gazing at it.  The air is hot and sultry, everyone moves in slow motion.......island time.  The people are amazing and you feel like you are living in a Ernest Hemingway novel.

Once we spent a week on Eleuthera  with our grown childen,  and every morning one of our neighbors would leave a fresh pineapple on our porch.  Yummy, best Pina Colada ever!  We would walk to the bakery every morning for fresh Bahama bread for our breakfast.  In the afternoons, the entire island population would gather on the dock to buy fresh fish.  The fishermen would lay their catch on the dock and the housewives would gather around to pick their dinner.

Every day we found another isolated, beautiful beach to enjoy.  Evenings were spent sitting on the porch, laughing, enjoying each other.  It was a throw back to another, simpler life and we all enjoyed it immensely.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Fiddlehead Fern Painting, 11x14x1.5" Oil NFS

A few posts back, I showed you a painting of fiddlehead ferns.  I decided to do a companion piece.  The original painting had a very dark, some would call it black, background, but on this one I decided to go light,

NFS
The background is photographing a little orangey...it is really more of a nice yellow.  I wanted it to suggest the sunlight that was pouring in around the ferns.

I am considering one more fiddlehead painting,,,,,a really big one!  What do you think?

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Child Portrait, "The Redhead", 8x10x1.5, oil, NFS

I am very lucky to have a dear friend, who did a very nice thing for me.  To show my gratitude, I gifted her with this painting of her youngest granddaughter.

I was very intimidated by this gorgeous girl's ivory skin tones and her flaming copper red hair.  I must say, if you want to have fun.....paint a red headed child!

I believe I captured her vibrant personality and a good likeness, but only those who know her well can judge that.  Grandma did seem very pleased.

Thanks so much for viewing my blog today.

Daily Paintings, Small Oil Painting, Landscape Painting, "A Few Recent Sales"

I have been working long and hard in the studio, trying to complete a few projects before we head for the hills (better known as the Smoky Mountains) in June.

In spite of all my hard work, I don't have any paintings that are photographed and ready to post on the blog this morning.  Soooooo, I thought I would do something a little different, and show you what has been selling for me.

My prints

This guy is always popular as a giclee canvas print.

A collector in Canada, wanted a tropical memory in her home.  Or maybe a tropical daydream!

A sweet husband surprised his wife with this marsh painting.  She loves marshes.

See it here

My client liked this canvas print so well, she is ordering one for her mother, too.  "King of the Flock" is one of my best selling prints.

"The Green Sea" is happily residing in Brooklyn.......

along with "Golden Marsh".  Thank you, Connor, for repeatedly supporting my art.

So that's it for today.  Goal for today....photograph paintings!

Thanks for visiting.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Art on Sale, "Vine Candy" , Small Oil Still Life, 6x8"

Is this a still life?  I never know how to classify a painting that is not clearly a still life.  Maybe it is a landscape?  Why do I worry about these things?

Purchase here
96 less $20 rebate

I painted this a few years ago, along with a companion piece.  I find it to be very attractive with  complimentary colors, strong values and cool abstract shapes.
