Rose Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 6x8" Oil

This is a little painting I did recently.  I was experimenting with using safflower oil as a medium.  I normally paint using only a touch of turps when I want to free up the paint a little, but have decided to try another technique.

I can see it will take a little adjustment on my part, as I tend to use too much oil and get some soupy paint.  However, I like the over all effect and the nice finish it leaves.  No more varnish needed!

The down side is it requires drying time and of course, there is the fire hazard.  I have been told to put my rags and paper towels in a plastic bag at the end of the day and wet them down with water to  make sure they don't spontaneously combust.  I also have one of those fire proof trash cans, so I will use both methods to keep the studio (and my house) safe.

Florida Landscape Painting, Sky Painting, "Heading Out" 14x20" Oil SOLD

Well, the big week is finally here.  Soon Christmas will be here.  I don't know about you, but I have some very excited grandchildren.  Not to mention plenty of last minutes errands to run!  So, today's post will be short but sweet!

Speaking of sweet, a very sweet woman from Jacksonville commissioned me to do two oils for her.  She had a pair of stunning frames that she wanted to use, so we took two of my existing paintings that she admired and changed to format from 6x18"  to 14x20".  Needless to say, that changed the feel of the original works completely.

SOLD

We were both happy with the results.

Thanks for taking the time, from YOUR busy schedule, to read my blog today.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Floral with Melon Still Life, 14x18x.75" Oil

Today's art is a workshop painting.  I recently attended a 4-day workshp with one of my favorite artists, Elio Camacho.  Elio is as good as an instructor as he is as an artist.  I would be hard pressed to find another instructor with as much knowledge and one who gave me as much individual attention.  Maybe he thought I need the attention more than others....just kidding.  Everyone in the class got lots of instruction tailored to their individual needs.

This is my second Elio workshop and I have already signed up for another.  I need constant reinforcement to actually put his techniques in practice.

Elio is not an internet artists, but you can find his work on Pinterest.  He doesn't allow photos taken of him that expose his face.  You will see lots of images of him at the easel, always from behind.

He lives in the Bay area, but travels to Florida in the Spring and Fall of each year to do workshops in several locations here.  Workshop information is available on his website here.  If you decide to go, you will have a real treat ahead of you, as he is also a very interesting person with a wonderful sense of humor.  Enjoy!

Have a great day!

Small Floral Still Life. Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Flower Painting, 9x12x.75" Oil

Still playing catch up!  In retrospect, it was probably not a good idea to be out of state three months, attend a 4 day workshop and accept almost 20 commissions just weeks before the holidays.

So although I was painting every day, I struggled to find new works that I could show on my blog at that time.

I did manage to do this one:

I really enjoyed painting something that I wanted to paint, and I think it shows.  Free and easy strokes and a touch of whimsy.

Time to take a deep breath and decide just what is important and what it not.

Thanks for reading my blog today.

A Little French Landscape, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 8x10x1.5" Oil SOLD

In my last post, I showed a mountain landscape commission.  Today I am posting the second landscape my client ordered.

He has been lucky enough to live in many fabulous locations during his career.  This  painting is also from one of his photographs of his many travels....the beautiful French countryside.

SOLD
I must say, I felt a little envy when I saw this beautiful scene.  Looks like it came straight out of a movie, don't you think?

Mountain Range, Daily Painting, Small oil painting, 11x14x1.5 Oil SOLD

I have been working on multiple commissions since July, which has  made it difficult to keep up with my daily paintings.  This is one of the commissions that I delivered recently.

SOLD

The client is an excellent photographer who lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  I was supplied with his image, which is the view from his home.  The mountains in the photograph showed the distinct edges, I believe to be lines of trees on the ridges.

It was an enjoyable painting to create and the customer was happy with the end results.

Have a great December day!

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Seascape with Sunset, 6x8" Oil SOLD

Another in my long fascination with oceans and, or, sunrise/sunset paintings.  I am not sure why I am so attracted to them, but I am!

SOLD

I always enjoy playing with thick paint!  I have been accused of being that person who "plays with her food".  Wrong!

For whatever reason, the process and the results please me....and that is my goal.
