Seascape Painting, Small Oil Painting, "The Green Sea" by Carol Schiff, 8x10x1.5" SOLD

When I lived on the coast of Florida, I loved going to the beach for inspiration.

SOLD

The mood and colors of the sea change drastically and often, so you never know which sea you will find.

Some days it is hot and hazy, or choppy or calm as a lake.  The color may be blue, green, turquoise or maybe muddy.  When a storm moves in, everything changes quickly.

The mood of my seascapes also change.  Some of  them are full of texture and color, some not so much.  This one was quite a challenge for me, I just couldn't mix the colors I wanted or make my brush behave.  It took a few tries, but eventually I created a painting I was happy with.

Florida Landscape, Daily Painting, "Sunlit Plams" by Carol Schiff, 10x8x.75" Oil SOLD

This is a scene I see everyday in Florida.  When the sun is low in the sky, the entire landscape is bathed in golden light.  An  uninteresting sight, like this clump of palm trees, takes center stage.

SOLD

This is just one of the perks that art has brought to my life.....the ability to really see....to take notice of the beauty that surrounds me.  Not just the obvious like a glowing sunset or a beautiful flower garden, but the magic that can happen to a clump of palm trees that I have walked by day after day.

Painting on Sale, Small Oil Landscape, "Country Roads" by Carol Schiff, 6x12x.75

Wild and Wacky Wednesday is here again and so is another painting on sale.

Purchase here
150 minus 25.00 REBATE
This painting has always had a special place in my heart.  Although we live in Florida, we spend lots of summer time in the mountains of North Carolina.  When you follow the road through the Great Smoky Mt. National Park, you end up in Gatlinburg, TN.and that is where I found this old barn years ago.

If you are wondering why I send a rebate, let me explain.  When you follow the link to purchase, you will be taken to my Etsy site. Chances are, if I lower the price on Etsy, and the painting does not sell, I will forget to go back and correct the Etsy listing.:)  My memory is not working as well as it used to.  The second reason is I like to think of this as a little bonus for my blog readers.   This is the only place I advertise these Wednesday sales.

So this is how it works.....Purchase the painting at $150. on Etsy, where you have a choice of paying by credit card or PayPal.  YOU write on the order "WILD AND WACKY SALE".   That tells me to send you back a $25.00 rebate on your account, which I do as soon as I am notified of the sale.  This offer expires Thursday, March 27, 2014 at midnight PDT.

Do me a favor please and pin it!

Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, "Roses of Laura Plantation" by Carol SAchiff, 10x10x1.5" Oil SOLD

Last spring I was touring the beautiful Creole plantation in southern Louisiana, called Laura.  It was named for the "president" of the plantation,  who is always the smartest child.  The Creole's had no problem recognizing women as the smartest and strongest in their communities.

SOLD

The plantation was more of business than home, although it served as both. It was very functional. If it didn't make money, it wan't there.  In contrast, the American plantation down the road  was your typical big white house with columns....just what you would expect a plantation to look like.

I was charmed by this scene of climbing roses and knew I would want to paint it.

Now that I have.....I want to do a larger version.

Swan Oil Painting, Daily Painting, "Swan Reflections" by Carol Schiff, 16x20x.75 Oil SOLD

On most mornings, I take a walk around the neighborhood.  Everyday, I would pass this beautiful creature and his mate, gliding across the water of a small pond.  When I saw the photograph I was able to take, I knew I would want to paint it.

I painted with brush and palette knife and was able to obtain a nicely textured surface to indicate the water.
The background, which was difficult to photograph correctly, is a mixture of a rich brown and a greenish dark.

I have done several paintings using the reference images I took that day.  One is a 11x14 pastel and one is a 6x8 oil.  I am glad I had my camera that day because the birds are gone now.  I like to think they just flew away.

Thank you for viewing my daily painting today.   I hope you will pin it!

Another painting on sale today because it is  "WILD AND WACKY WEDNESDAY".

Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, "A Cool One" by Carol Schiff, 10x10x.75 Oil

Serving up Margarita today!  This small oil painting, worked with a palette knife, is chock full of ice cubes, lime slices and a salty rim.

Purchase here
150 + shipping

Painted with a palette knife and lots of chunky texture.  I had a little difficulty bringing interest to this painting.  When that happens, my first line of attack is the palette knife.  I like the subtle color changes I can achieve with the knife and of course I can give it as much or as little texture as I desire.  Usually I desire a lot of texture!  I have to remind myself that less is more.

Flower Painting, Daily Painting, "Sunshine Mix" by Carol Schiff, 8x6" Oil SOLD

Today's flower painting is a little reminder that spring is not to far away! It seems like this must be the longest winter in the history of the world!
SOLD
I liked the fresh brushwork and the abstract shapes in this painting

I like painting flowers because I love the vibrant colors and I can make the shapes whatever I want them to be.  Most of my flower paintings are free of detail and stress.  I almost feel like I am playing when I paint them.  The next time you are close to tearing your hair out, I highly recommend, step back and take a deep breath.....and work on a flower painting!

Painting on Sale, Daily Painting, "Fruit Salad" by Carol Schiff, 10x8" Oil

This week, my painting on sale is a nice little still life.  Various fruits in the foreground, against a background of palm shadows.  I like to think the earth tilts once a year, just for me, so that the setting sun shines in my window, just so, spraying my wall with gorgeous palm shadows.

Still Life Bottle Painting, "Fluer de Lis" by Carol Schiff, 6x18x1.5" Oil

I like to collect bottles, so, it is a natural for me to do a still life bottle painting.  I like the fluer de lis on the bottle as well as the bold gold color.

purchase here
199 + shipping

Painting this bottle was a challenge for me, but photographing the results was even more frustrating.  Try as I might, I could not get the correct background color to show.  The image above is much too blue while the one below seems more accurate.

Thank you for viewing my still life bottle painting today and please feel free to pin it if you so desire.
