MUSEUM QUALITY PEARS, OIL, 14X18

The image above is the completed painting, below is my first lousy try at photographing it. I also made some minor corrections.
Pleae excuse this blurry photograph. I have tried to photo this all afternoon and finally got one that was fairly glare-free only to see that it is not as clear as it could be. I just give up for today! I'll try again tomorrow, but I did want to get a new post up. The title refers not to my work, but to the fact that I found this bowl of pears in the snack bar of the National Gallery of Art a few weeks ago. My husband was so humiliated that I was in line, photographing fruit!

LOL! I can picture you there with camera. When inspiration strikes, it's best to be ready! This is a beautiful painting. Love the deep, glowing scene, and really vantage point. Wonderful composition. Hope your hubby was able to get his lunch : )

This is gorgeous, Carol. Hey--what are husbands and children and pets for, but as targets of embarrassment for us?? I'm glad you snapped it!

I'm still laughing out loud and my cat thinks I'm crazy after reading your post. I'm glad I'm not the only one embarrassing my loved ones (my children in my case) photographing things I feel would be interesting in a painting in a public place. No worries, I'll bet there were a handful of creative types upset that they didn't have the chutzpah to do what you did.

This is an AWESOME painting. I'll bet it would knock my socks off if I saw it in person.

Your pears are downright luminous. Nice reflections on the bowl, too.

I am also guilty of shooting photos that others find odd; came back from 3 weeks in Italy with 600 photos of fruit stands, dessert cases, window displays, weird signs, and graffiti. Not a classic landmark in the bunch, but I got a few paintings out of it I like.

Carol - You did a great job on these pears, I just want to touch them. I also like your use of color in the reflections on the bowl.

Dad had it easy. He should have seen you in the Campo dei Fiori in Roma. Vegetables galore to be photographed.

LOL! Well, in spite of your husband's embarrassment I think it was worth it! These pears turned out beautifully. You've created good feeling of depth in this too. I like how the counter leads me into the painting as well. Really lovely!
