FIRST GARDENIA, 6x8, OIL,SOLD

I don't do a lot of flowers, they frustrate me, but I am planning to try a few. I felt I had to give this one a try. I was on my way to paint with my group, wondering what I would work on, and when I stepped outside, my gardenia bush had it's first bloom of the season. I took it along, was not successful but tried again later in the day.

Hi Carol,
This one came out great. I have tried flowers a few times and always suffered through the painting. I think you should try some more of these, very nice and fresh.

Gosh, the color and brushwork in this reminds me of a book called "The Last Flowers of Manet". I can see so much more in this than the average flower painting. Thanks for sharing!

Carol...thanks for the comments on "Warm October." This painting is strong as you were able to pull color shapes together. It also has a good design sense with a balance of positive and negative shapes.

I am giving a workshop in October, but in Midland Michigan, a bit too far from Florida. Wish you could be there.
