THE SMOKIES, 18X24, OIL

This is a studio painting of the Smokies, a vista in the park as you are driving from Cherokee, over the mountains to Gatlinburg, TN. I posted a small study of this a week or so ago. My husband has confiscated this for our mountain home. He is a type A personality and loves it, I am a type C personality and wish it were not so tight!

Carol--oh my gosh! I hadn't visited in a few days--this is not about the Smokey mtn. painting, but I wanted to make sure you got my comment. The abstracts you have been doing are so emotional. The marsh scene and the Mexico water scene---absolutely yummmmmmmy. I seriously encourage you to get comfortable with the unknown and feeling your way through the painting process. That's the kind of art that goes straight to the heart! Love it, love it!

This is a great painting that probably depicts the area very well. I have never been there, but I now have a sense of what the scenery must be like. Great perspective too. If we have spent a lot of time painting "tighter" it seems so easy to go back there, even if we don't want to. Its kind of a comfort zone. So, I think its an ok break once in a while.

Your husband sounds like he might be a bit like mine when it comes to art. Mine only likes my tightly rendered, realistic art and doesn't care for the looser stuff at all, but I'm always trying to go for a looser feel in my pieces. Regardless, your painting is beautiful and I can't blame him for confiscating it! I especially envy your clouds!
