Cabbage, 11x14, oil SOLD
I seem to have fallen in love with fruits and veggies. I definitely appreciate their beauty more than I did in the past, and when I saw this cabbage in the produce department, I had to bring it home. It had a small but perfect head and these beautiful, large leaves fanning out from the head. I begged the bagger to treat it kindly and he did a perfect packing job. I know this sounds odd, but instead of painting from life, I photographed it. I was working on another painting project at the time and didn't want it to loose it's freshness. I ended up with, what I think is a great photo, with lots of purplely shadows, so in the end it was a good decision for me to paint from an image.

It is lovely!!!!
Wow Carol, you captured the heartiness of this little one. The thickness of the leaves is evident and yes you are absolutely right about the wonderful color.
carole- this one's really nice. who would have thought a cabbage was so beautiful LOL
just my two cents.... the pink on grey type on your blog is hard for these old eyes to see. may just be me tho'.
This cabbage is simply gorgeous! The colors are perfect. Great job!
LOVE this one Carol! Beautiful colour and nice work on the veins. Great edges and light and darks.
Love your use of color - especially the blue/violet shadows.
very pretty wee cabbagehead!!
You really nailed those purple and blue shadows!
Wow - great interpretation!! Your control of color and watercolors is remarkable.
Ooh, Carol, the colors are so subtle and sophisticated -- very nice!
This is absolutely wonderful! I love it!
I love to paint fruits and veggies too but never thought a cabbage would make such a nice painting. Very nice! Like the photo idea too.
Such rich colors you achieved Carol! Gives an impression of a flower rather than vegetable - nicely done.
A simply stunning cabbage! The purples and greens and that light olive where the light is coming through the leaf on top, just beautiful. And thanks for the NYC snaps! Very interesting and enjoyable.
That is the most beautiful cabbage I've ever seen.
How did I miss this one...looks great.
Carol, this cabbage looks like it is right out of MOOD. Beautifully done. Looks like you had a great trip.
