Abstract Daily Painting, 8x8" "INDECISION", SOLD

Every once in a while I have to try something abstract.  This one is all about texture and the red under painting.

I mixed sand from the beach into the gesso.

It's always fun to experiment, especially when I start to take my painting a little too seriously.

This piece is sold, but is available as a giclee canvas print here.

Daily Painting "Teapot with Stripes" 6x8, oil SOLD

"Tea is a cup of life"
Author, Unknown

My paint group "Pieces of Eight" always tries to keep things interesting.  Last week, I was assigned the task of bringing a still life.

I chose a teapot, but my real challenge was the stripes on the drape.

We all had a great time and everyone ended up with an exciting painting.

A little about my paint group.  One member of our group, Carmen Beecher is featured in the new issue of International Artist Magazine.  She has a wonderful article and demo on the Everglades and they gave her eight pages in the issue.  Check it out as I am sure you will enjoy it.

Daily Painting, "Waves", Seascape, 6x8", Oil, SOLD

I enjoy trying to capture the feel of the surf rushing to shore on my canvas.

The ocean seems to have a different character and color each time I visit.  This is the east coast of Florida, while California is much more rugged and has a deep rich blue hue.

I like to use my daily paintings very informally in my home.  Just prop them up where ever the mood strikes! No frame necessary!

Landscape Panoramic Daily Painting "Before Evening Fell", 6x18"

I enjoy unusual formats and dramatic scenes and I think this little daily painting provides both.

I worked some areas with a palette knife to achieve some texture, which I believe, adds interest.

I originally painted this and thought I was finished, didn't like it, glazed over it, didn't like it, and painted over most of the scene.  Finally, I liked the finished results.

Sometimes I just sit art on a shelf, instead of framing and hanging.

Daily Painting, "Blazing Palms" 6x6, oil SOLD

I really enjoy the palette knife.  It is soooo much fun pushing around big globs of paint.

I especially have fun painting water with the palette knife.  The textures seem perfect to suggest choppy water.

I caught this scene just moments before the sun started it's journey below the horizon, when it was still bathing it's light on the trees.

Appreciate the day!

Tropical Landscape Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Palette Knife Art | Tropical Glow by Carol Schiff | 6x12" Oil, SOLD

I was down at the inter-coastal one evening in late November, just as the sun started it's journey below the horizon.

When the sunlight hit the trunks of  palms, they seemed to glow, almost like they were on fire.

Some times, I like to display my paintings on a shelf instead of framing and hanging on the wall.

This painting has been licensed and reproduced as a hand-distressed solid wood plank wall decor.  You may have seen it on OneKingsLane.com, JoshandMain.com or Wayfare.com.

Thanks for viewing my daily paintings.  Have a great weekend everybody!

SOLD Tropical Landscape Blue Lagoon Daily Painting 6x8"

This is a daily painting from late November.  Shortly after I left, the sun fell and this beautiful sunset was gone forever.

For me, one of the most enjoyable scenes, is watching a sailboat slowly make it's way through the water.

The days can get very hectic around the middle of the week.  If that happens to you, take a deep breath  and try to imagine yourself on the deck of a sailboat on a lovely afternoon such as this.

Cards, cards and more cards

I have always admired artists who show their work on note cards, so I finally decided to take the plunge myself.

I wanted the cards to be of very good quality.

I decided that I wanted to use glossy photographs instead of a card with a printed image.

I had a hard time choosing the paintings I wanted to feature.

I finally decided on these five images.  The cards are blank  with plenty of room to write a message.

The 5x7" cards may be purchased in my Etsy store, either individually or as a set.  When you purchase a set, you save $4.00 off the price of purchasing individually.  I will sign the front or back of the cards, if you desire and as an added bonus, the photos may be removed and reused. They are on quality natural card stock with matching envelopes.

Hope you like them!

Pelican Daily Painting, 5x7, "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay" SOLD

Well, technically, he was sitting on the dock of the harbor, but you get the idea...he was looking for lunch!

I met this guy while eating lunch at an out door cafe in Vero Beach.

Unlike the noisy and aggressive gulls, he was not interested in my lunch, but looking out for himself.

I hope you get a chance to "hang out" today too!  I hope you enjoy my daily paintings.
