Abstract Art, "SOAR", 24x36" Original Mixed Media SOLD

I have been busy with commissions since early December and finally found time to do another abstract.

SOLD

My painting group, Pieces of 8 is planning a group exhibition this summer at the local community college and we have all been working hard, getting our pieces ready.  The venue is fabulous and many entertainment giants have performed there, from Willie Nelson to Jerry Seinfeld to Mikhail Baryshnikov. The exhibition will be in the lobby, a huge room  with 30 ft ceilings.

I usually don't paint this large (24x36") because of difficulty storing and shipping but this had to be an exception.  I have a few more pieces to do for this exhibition and will post them as they are created.  I  don't know if they all have to be abstract as the other artists will be showing many different media.  I would love to hear your opinion......should I stick to abstract??

"Rayne" 16x20, SOLD

I have painted by friend's grandchildren several times as they were growing up.  Rayne is the youngest of the family.  Although she was included in a grouping with her brother and sister, she was the only child that did not have her own special painting.

SOLD

She was not happy with the situation, so finally, her mother commissioned this painting from me.

I don't do figurative work too often, although it is one of my goals for this year.  I hope little Rayne is happy with her very own painting.

Everybody Loves Chocolate!

You are probably asking yourself right now, "Am I on the right blog?".............and the answer is YES.
Last fall I was contracted to paint three fruit and candy designs to be used on the candy bags for these delicious chocolate covered fruit flavored candies.  I was so pleased to receive these samples in the mail.  Unfortunately for me, they are only being distributed on the west coast at this time, and I live 3,000 miles away on the east coast, so I will not be walking into my local Home Goods store and see them on the shelf.

It was a fabulous experience for me and I still get excited when I see MY work on the bags.  They even gave me credit as each and every bag reads "Artwork by Carol Schiff" followed with my website address!  How cool is that.

Now I have to decide whether to keep these bags or to eat the candy and maybe have the bags preserved in a frame.  My husband votes to eat the candy.  How do you vote?

Recital, 9x14" Pastel, SOLD

Today, I am posting something quite different........for me. I have not worked in pastel for almost ten years, but when a friend asked me to paint her two granddaughters in the medium, I could not refuse her.

SOLD

We were both happy with the results of the first painting.

I love the fresh color of pastels, but I found it much more difficult than oils when I tried to nail the image
Hilda, I don't know how you do it!!

My client has two matching frames that she wanted to use.  Both paintings feature her granddaughters at the piano and the frames came with a clever mat  featuring sheet music.  My sweet husband helped me remove the old image and insert the painting.

I am working on the second painting now and will post it in the future.

Daily Painting | Bird Painting | Wildlife Painting | It's My Tern by Carol Schiff | 6x8" Oil SOLD

"It's my Tern" but it could be "Your Tern".

SOLD

I found these guys on the beach....actually they were two of about 50.  If you know your terns, you know they arrive in large flocks.  The flock acts as one unit and is so much fun to watch.  They swoop down on the beach, each one of them looking in the same direction.  If you get too close, they move a few steps in unison, always moving and looking as one.

I think this is one good tern..........

after another!

And my tern to have a little fun :-)

Flower Painting | Floral Still Life | Daily Painting | Horizontal Point of View II by Carol Schiff, 11x14 Oil SOLD

If this painting looks familiar to you......it should! Yes, my blog header is very similar... I painted it last year in a 6x8" format and have enjoyed painting flowers every since.

$176 + 16
SOLD

I liked the original painting and wanted to see if I could paint larger using this same technique.  I have to say I  was pleased with the results.

This one is 11x14, but I think it still shows the same freshness and simplicity that I was trying to obtain.  Thank you for viewing my daily painting today.

Daily Painting | Food Still Life | Avocado Painting | Standing Avocado by Carol Schiff | 8x10" Oil SOLD

Maybe it's because my husband was in the Air Force for 20 years, but, when I look at this painting, all I can think about is that this is an avocado standing "at attention"

SOLD

The thing I really like about this daily painting is that I was able to use my favorite color combination of yellow green and red violet.

The dark sienna and orange helps to make it sizzle.

Do you have a favorite technique to make your paintings pop?

Daily Painting | Pear Still Life | Small Oil Painting | Trio de Poires Retro Eclaire by Carol Schiff | SOLD

If you follow this blog, you may remember a post recently of three pears with backlighting,  This is another painting that I did on that same day, with the same pears, just a slightly different composition and a different view point.

SOLD

This is the original post.

SOLD

Two very different paintings of the same subject matter, on the same day. Not earth shattering...but maybe a little interesting.

Florida Landscape | Daily Painting | Tropical Painting | Heading Home by Carol Schiff | 12x24" Original Oil Painting, SOLD

If this looks familiar to you.....it's because I have painted the scene before.  If fact, the first painting, which is smaller, was licensed and produced as wall decor on wood planks by Arthouse LLC.

SOLD

This is a view of the Indian River, part of the intra-coastal waterway in Florida, as viewed from Grant Florida.  It was late afternoon (just before sunset) on a gorgeous November day.  I took many photos and have painted about a dozen pieces from this one photo shoot.

I used a palette knife technique that I like to call "color weaving".  It gives lots of texture and soft changes of color.
