November Seascape, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 5x7" Oil on panel

We are back in Florida, to spend time with our family.  It is so wonderful to be back on the coast.

Purchase Here
Smelling the salt air, hearing rhythmic sound of the waves and screeching sea gulls.  Life is good when you have sand between your toes!

What can be more soothing than the waves rushing to shore?

I have to admit, I don't have the courage to paint on the beach.  This piece was done using a photo I took, during my morning walk.

Have a beachy day!

It is always interesting and educational to review the painting journey that you have been on.  I like to line up older paintings, chronologically, which helps me to see the improvements I have made and the ones I would like to make in the future.  Always an interesting exercise.

Have a painterly day and thanks for visiting!

Florida Seascape Painting, small oil painting, daily painting

I created this small seascape from my memories of the beautiful beaches that surround us here in the state of Florida.

SOLD
I painted with a brush and pallet knife to show texture in the waves rushing to shore and the sea oats rising above the protective dunes.

The more I travel, the more I am in awe of our beautiful world, including the beauty of my home states.  It is so easy to forget the beauty that surrounds you.  Take a moment today to find your beauty.

Thank you for reading my blog.

Thistle Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, SOLD

This small oil painting is a tribute to thistles. The lowly thistle, thought to be a weed, in my eyes, a brilliant floral beauty.

SOLD

I photographed this thistle while taking a summer walk in the valley. Armed with my image, I painted it in oil, with lots of texture to suggest the spikey flower. Some of the texture comes from my use of the palette knife, and some of it was applied direct to the canvas. The sides of the canvas are finished, allowing it to be hung with or without a frame.

This is a picture of me, doing my favorite thing!

Thank you for viewing my art today.

Early Paintings, How Far Have You Come?, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting

Every once in awhile, I like to review my painting files.  I think it is extremely helpful, to see how your painting style has changed over the years.

When I started painting, I did lots of still life.  These two have encouraged me, to get back in the still life mode, doing set-ups in my studio.

Sometimes we just need to shake things up a little.   I think I am there, now.  Let's get a little new inspiration!

California Landscape, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 11x14" Oil Landscape

My good friend, and excellent photographer, Ted Fuhrer,  has done it again, supplying me with so many inspiring images to paint from.  On of the many places he has lived was the coastal region of California.

Ted, I hope you think I did justice to your work.

I am always in awe of the western coast of our country.  Living on the east coast is great, and I am so blessed to be here. We have gentle surf, warm water, island music.... But to me, the west coast is larger than life.  So rugged, so big, a constant test to exist there. The boulders are larger than houses, the mountain streams are full of rushing rapids. The pioneer spirit is still alive there.  I cannpt wait to visit again.

Abstract Seascape Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 11x14" Original Oil Painting

It is so hard to believe, that we have been living in the mountains of North Carolina for a year and a half.  I marvel at the beautiful mountain scenes outside my door.  Asheville has sooo much to offer!

But there is something it cannot offer...the beach, the sea, the salt air.

Maybe that is why I was moved to do this abstract.

Purchase here

I had fun playing with the direction of my knife strokes.  Still a minimalist painting, but with a little added interest.   Hmmmm, I see a mountain abstract in my future!

The perfect wall decor for a beach house, or for someone dreaming of a beach house.

We will be heading back to the beach soon, and I will have sand on my toes, once again.

Have a blessed day!

Seagull Painting, Wildlife Painting, Bird Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, SOLD

I love color, especially all the luscious paint colors available. I decided to shake things up a bit.  I painted with a limited palette of only one red, one blue, one yellow and white.  This was rather confining for me.  To make it even a little more difficult, I chose to paint a scene without much color of any type.

SOLD
I was pleasantly surprised by the beautifully harmonious results.  The color, in this piece is very subtle, but none the less, I enjoy it!

Jonathan Livingston Seagull lives on!

I will be trying this technique again!

Fish Painting, Angelfish Painting, Textured Painting,SOLD

Sometime ago, I visited Key Largo, which inspired a series of paintings, I called my Coral Reef Series.  One of  favorites of the series is called "Angels on Parade".

My client, who purchased this painting, also commissioned a companion piece.  Below is the second painting.

The client was very pleased with the pair of artworks.

Landscape Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Clinging to the World, 8x8x1.5" Original Oil, SOLD

This was a painting, I enjoyed creating!  I don't know why, but some days every brushstroke is a struggle, and a few times, everything just falls into place.

For me, this was a" fall into place day".

SOLD

Good days and bad days.  In the studio and out.  That is the way of life.  So, I try to enjoy the          "good" and not let the" bad" become overwhelming.

Here's hoping today is a "Good" day for you!

Coral Reef Painting, Key Largo Painting, Daily Painting, Large Oil Painting, 20x24x1.5" Oil

This is the largest of  my coral reef series....the largest so far.  It is highly textured, not with medium, but with paint.

purchase here

I sometimes paint over a failed painting, such as in this case.  Conventional wisdom will advise you to sand down your canvas and start over.  I prefer to let the texture of the failed painting show through.  Sometimes, I also allow pieces of the original art to show.

I originally had an abstract piece on this canvas, but although I liked some parts of the abstract, I  was not happy with the whole piece.  The canvas set in my studio for several years before I attempted to reuse it.  This technique may not be for everyone, but I am the texture queen, so, it appeals to me.

Thanks for viewing my art today.

Abstract Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Triptych Painting

Every now and then, I just have to do an abstract.  Usually painting knives are involved.  This one is no exception.   I wanted to take a square composition and turn it into a rectangle. This us what I came up with.

and here is the original square composition.  Which do you prefer?

I have been in North Carolina, in the mountains for the past few weeks.  We are enjoying our time here.

The other day we went to the park and had a picnic lunch, something we never do at home.  There were ducks and geese everywhere.

We had a relaxing and fun time and our sandwiches tasted twice as good as usual.  The crisp fall weather comes and goes.  It is so much fun to be in the mountains this time of the year and I cannot wait for the fall color.   I will share with you when it comes.

When I work on the computer,  I can see chipmonks running back and forth, across the patio.  They are so fast, it is hard to get a photo, but I did manage to catch one stuffing his cheeks with goodies.

Have a great fall day, wherever you are.

Fall Landscape, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, One Last Autumn Painting, 6x8" Oil on Canvas

I know, I know!  By now, you are sick and tired of hearing me go on about fall in the mountains!  I promise, this is my last little autumn painting.

Purchase Here

I am trying to bring additional color, and different color into my art.  This time of year is perfect!  I tend to be a cool hue kind of girl, so inspiration is easy with fall colors everywhere.

Hmmmm!  I think I could become fond of the "other" side of the color wheel.  In any case, change is always a good thing.

Fall Landscape Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 6x8" Oil on Panel

Today I am posting another new autumn painting.  I am so inspired by the beautiful landscapes beyond my windows.

There is nothing better than a bright, sunny, fall day, with those gorgeous leaves, highlighted against a bright blue sky.

This is a cute little house, down the road, in Waynesville NC.  A little story book house!

Time for pumpkins, burning leaves, and roasting marshmallows.  The local orchards are full of apples and cider.  YUM!  If I could just find a hay ride, life would be complete.

Rural Landscape Painting, Autumn Painting,Daily Painting, Palette Knife Painting, 11x14" Oil

A scene that is found everywhere, in my new state, North Carolina.  Maybe not everywhere, but, everywhere around here in the Asheville area.

We are just getting hints of fall.  A maple will have one red branch, while the rest of the tree is still green.  But I can sense that it WANTS to be red!

This is my first autumn as a resident in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and I am excited!

Hope your day is colorful, too!

Does anyone read my blog?

I  thought I would catch up with the stats on my blog, today, and found some very interesting results!

For instance......the number 1 blog post, after 9 years of posting, is a small abstract, I barely remember.  Posted on August 18, 2013, it has 6 times the amount of views of the number 2 blog post.

The second most popular post, was this little floral.

I do not consider either to be in the top 10 of my most "memorable" works.

Does my blog need a major overhaul?  Or should it die a quiet death?  Is the day of the "blog" over?

Any comments would be appreciated.
