Collage on Sale "Wild and Wacky Wednesday" Flower Collage by Carol Schiff, 8x8" torn paper collage SOLD

This posting is doing double duty for me.  Of course, it is Wild and Wacky Wednesday....but it is also showing an example of items you can expect to see at the Pieces of Eight Holiday Sale this Saturday.

SOLD
This 8x8" torn paper collage on canvas panel is listed in my Etsy store for $79.95 plus shipping.  It will be priced for $45.00 at our sale.  Nice saving!  I decided to present it to you today at the same price.  After all, not everyone will be able to come to Central Florida this weekend.  So when you purchase today, just write Wild and Wacky on the order, and I will immediately send you a  refund $35.00!

You might ask why I don't just lower the price on the listing.  That is because this price is only good until midnight today.  It is easier to send a refund than to remember to change the price of the listing early Wednesday and then (if it doesn't sell) change it back again the next morning.

Happy Shopping and don't forget to follow this link for a map to the sale.

PALM FOREST, 8x8 Mixed Media Collage SOLD

In my humble opinion, there are two types of artists.  There are the ones that choose a media, find a style, paint a small variety of subject matter, and get very, very expert in their genre.  The other type is all over the board, changing media, changing subject matter, experimenting, experimenting, experimenting....that would be me.

SOLD
I try to behave like a grown up, but I just can't seem to pull it off!  My mind is buzzing....oils, landscapes, still life, abstract, collage, mixed media.  How can I possibly get "good" at anything when I am doing everything?

Then I read an article about a sweet little old lady in our town.  She was well into her 80's but didn't look it at all.  An association that honors senior's requests asked what is the one thing she would like to do the most.  Her reply......she wanted to be a Las Vegas showgirl!  They couldn't pull that off, but they did send her on a crazy trip to Vegas.

Months later, they had a request from the Tattoo reality show, for a senior who would like to be on the show.  Guess who they recommended?  So this little lady, was flown to NYC, given celebrity status, and filmed getting a tatoo that covers half her back.  In case you think that was her first tat....no way, she had 3 others and her husband had a few too.  Most importantly, they are having the time of their life...and I think that is keeping them young!  This lady remarked "Why do I have to disappear, just because I am over 80?"
Why indeed!

So, this morning, I am giving myself permission to paint or assemble anything I want.  Life is short....enjoy the journey! (Still don't have a tat though)

Bon voyage!

TOUR EIFFEL, 11X14, ORIGINAL COLLAGE

If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.

Ernest Hemingway

If you cannot live in Paris, do the next best thing...pretend!

Hubby has been  minding the home fires while I flit through London and Paris with my friend Donna and my granddaughter, Courtney.  We will return in a few days, full of inspiration!

O white pear,
your flower-tufts,
thick on the branch,
bring summer and ripe fruits
in their purple hearts.

I have just taken price reductions on many of the paintings on my Etsy sites, CarolSchiffStudio and CarolOnEdge .  If there is a painting you have been wanting to purchase, it may well be one of the ones that I have reduced.

FLOWERS FOR YOU, 8X8 COLLAGE SOLD

I had so much fun with my apple collage a few weeks ago, I decided to try another.  This one is on a canvas panel and I layered a lot of colored tissue papers to make new colors.  It also has a bit of metallic ribbon.

This is a great example of the wonderful and unique art available on Etsy.  The creative artist, Danny Phillips from Austin, Texas has a great selection of his clever collage paintings.  He has developed a unique technique for his backgrounds, as shown here.  Visit his site here.  One of my guilty pleasures....surfing Etsy!

AN APPLE A DAY, 8X8", COLLAGE, SOLD

My friend Donna, always has something new up her sleeve, so my painting group was not really surprised when she announced that we would do "collage" at one of our gatherings.  She came with tons of papers in all colors and form along with matte medium and an apple.  Half way into this, I got in the groove, came home and sacrificed two of my vintage cookbooks for recipes.

In the end, I had a great time and several ideas for my next try.  Fun, fun, fun!

PEPPERS, ARTICHOKES AND ONIONS

I took photos today of two or three new paintings that I have been trying to finish up, and when I loaded them on the computer, they all had major glare problems. So,rather than not put up a new post, I am, once again posting one of my older pastels. This one is kind of interesting because I glued a type of hand-made paper all over and then worked the pastel over it. This is the only photo I have, and it is actually a detail which doesn't show the most interesting part of the collage effect. I did this technique two or three times, and they were a great success. I really need to buckle down and do a few more. I hope you enjoy it. If you are interested in purchasing, please e-mail me for details of price and size.
