HANGING OUT, 5X7, OIL
This guy hangs out on the fishing pier in Cocoa Beach, FL, waiting for an easy meal to steal from an unsuspecting fisherman. It was really, really, steaming hot that day and I tried to capture that heavy atmospheric feeling in the piece.

I'M A LITTLE TEAPOT, 5X7, OIL, SOLD
I didn't get anything new done, so I decided to re-post this as it is one of my favorites. About once every 100 paintings, I get the color relationships right and get that nice glow. I feel that this was one of those.
Happy Birthday to my grandson Kevin. Have a fantastic day!

ALL DRESSED UP WITH NOWHERE TO GO, 5X7, OIL SOLD
Cupcakes are all the rage these days. This little sweetie looks like it is dressed to the hilt, maybe waiting for that special guest appearance at a party.
I am having trouble with my comments. Visitors have complained that they have trouble leaving comments, so I made some changes in the settings. However, for the past 3 or 4 days, comments were being posted without moderation or notification to me, so I have made more setting changes. Please be patient with me. If I don't acknowledge your comment, please know that I have read it and do appreciate it. Hopefully, I can work through this and come up with a solution to the problem. I know I am not the only one having this problem, so if you can help me, please do!

ROSE OF SHARON, 5X7, OIL, SOLD
Today is a special day. It is my mother's 89th birthday. She is one tough lady and has overcome much in her life. When she was born she was only two pounds. My grandmother fed her with an eye-dropper and carried her on a pillow. Can you imagine that she could survive that 89 years ago? She is not doing too well now and may not be with us much longer, but I thought this would be the perfect way to honor her on her birthday.
There are not too many plants as tough as Rose of Sharon. In Western North Carolina, you see them everywhere. The are pretty tough plants. A neighbor trimmed her plant and brought the trimmings to me last summer. I stuck them in the ground and watered them for a week and then left for the winter. Today they line the front of my vacation home, covered in flowers, all summer long. They only stop flowering when the frost comes. When I am there, every morning I love to get a cup of coffee and sit in the rocker on my porch, surrounded with these beautiful flowers.
Happy Birthday, Mom!
PS: Today is the last day of my Blog Visitor's sale. Check the previous post for details.

THE OLD DOGWOOD TREE, 7X5, OIL, SOLD
This is the view from my house in the mountains. An old dogwood tree, with the sun coming up behind the mountains. Usually there are a flock of wild turkey down the hill, next to the creek. Six weeks from now the mountain will be covered in red, oranges and yellows. My favorite time of the year and my favorite place to start the day.

HIBISCUS BLOOM, 5X7, OIL, SOLD
A couple friends and I went to St. Cloud, FL for a few hours last week. We did a little shopping, found a wonderful place for lunch (Diane's Tea Room, served homemade quiche and the absolute best homemade cranberry, walnut and orange zest scones with devenshire cream) and on the way out through the courtyard, I found this beautiful, perfect hibiscus bloom. It proved to be a challenge for me, but in the end I am happy with the results.
This painting has been licensed and reproduced as a hand-distressed solid wood plank wall decor.

SUMMER MARSH, 3X5, OIL, SOLD
I was in the Big Apple earlier this summer and while there, visited the Student's Art League. They have a great facility and and wonderful gallery, open to the public, where they display their pieces for sale. I don't remember the name of the store next door, but rightly enough, it was an art supply store. While checking it out, I found these little 3x5" Winsor-Newton panels. I have never seen this size before and thought it would be fun to try a few. It was also the perfect purchase size as I didn't have much room in my roll-aboard suitcase.

QUEEN OF SUNFLOWERS, 6X8, OIL, SOLD
I think that sunflowers are the personification of summer. The stunning and huge flowers always remind me of a queen looking down on her subjects. I can never look at one without smiling. I have always admired sunflower paintings (starting with Vincent) but never tried one until today. Such fun!

HALF ARTICHOKE, 5X7, OIL, SOLD
This is one I painted several months ago and for some reason I never got around to posting it. I must have had it in my stack of paintings to post at least a half dozen times. Maybe, deep down, I am unhappy with it, or maybe I like it too much to sell? The truth is, I think I was a little to unorganized.
Last week we were in North Carolina vacationing with my granddaughter Courtney and her friend Alison. There is nothing like spending a week with two teen-age girls to help you organize your life.

MOUNTAINS VS BEACH
I have just returned from a week in the beautiful and peaceful Smoky Mountains. This is not a new piece, but one that is near by heart. This is a view about 1/4 mile from our home Western NC, called Childer's Barn. We pass this each time we leave the house and I am always transfixed by it as we drive by. The changing season just adds to the beauty of the scene. Purchase here.
