Daily Painting, "In A World of Her Own", 8x6", Oil SOLD

During a recent trip to New York City with friends, we spent a few hours at a lovely Manhattan rooftop bar.

SOLD
This young woman was sitting across the roof top.  I was taken by her pose and snapped a quick photo.

When I began painting, I quickly realized that the background, a brick wall, was not what I wanted.  I decided to keep it simple and put the full focus on the woman and her skirt.

I suggested the wall with a few quick strokes of terra cotta.

SUNBABY II, OIL, 8X6, SOLD

We have had some very cold days here in Florida this week, as have many areas of  the US of A.  I thought I would post this painting from last summer, when it was hot and humid and we spent long days at the beach.
Feeling better yet?

GLAMOUR GIRL II, 8X6, OIL, SOLD

Just had to do one more of these hotties from the 40's!  This painting was featured on Etsy's front page Saturday!  Somehow I posted the Etsy badge twice, sorry!  I paint better than I compute!

GRANDMA WAS A VAMP, 8x6, OIL

Things have changed a lot in the last 100 years.  What was considered a hottie and scandalous then...not so much today.

Anyway, I like the baby doll features on this head.  It makes a haunting portrait.

FLAPPER II, 8X6, OIL, SOLD

My second attempt at a value study.  I did have fun with the post yesterday, so I tried it all over again today.   This technique is begining to grow on me!

Only a twelve year old girl can manage to look comfortable laying on a rock.  She managed to stay there for quite some time, dreaming away the day.

CONTEMPLATING WAVES, 8X6, OIL, SOLD

Have you ever stood in the water taking it all in, the water, sky, warmth, gulls and the ever present waves rushing towards you?  This is a good thing; one of the joys of living in Florida.  Sometimes in our busy lives we don't stop and smell the roses, or contemplate the waves.  SOLD

CAUGHT IN THE ACT OF ENJOYING HERSELF, 6X8, OIL, SOLD

Caught in the act of enjoying herself!  This woman was so striking with her long blond hair, enjoying the pleasures of the cool Atlantic.  I will be posting a second painting of her tomorrow.

BUDDIES, 6X8, OIL SOLD

There is nothing like the company of your dog.  They are fun, and faithful and when you are a young girl, they can add so much to your life.  I was raised as an only child and some of my best childhood memories involve my pet dogs.  This girl was sitting on a rock high over the Nantahala River at  NOC, watching the kayaks run the rapids.

DRESSING FOR DINNER II, 6X8,OIL

This is one of my favorites.  I snapped this photo about 12 years ago.  I was babysitting my one and only granddaughter when she decided to play "dress up".  She is almost 16 now and learning to drive, but it really seems like only yesterday that she looked like this.  Sometimes, I miss this little one.

Sunbaby, 6x8, oil, SOLD

I saw this cute little girl on the beach a few weeks ago and took several photos.  This is the second painting I have posted with her.  In the first one she was with her sister, who was wearing the pink hat.  This one was later in the day and she has both the sister's hat and  her mother's t-shirt on over her bathing suit.  I think she had a good day.

JILL IN RED, 5X7, OIL, SOLD

A few years ago, one of the my friend's daughter did a photo shoot with me. She is a really stunning lady and showed up in a killer red dress. I probably did 100 shots and did two paintings from it. This is the third, just a quickie. I realized that I was shying away from figures, so I have set a new goal to do several of them.

GUITAR PRACTICE, 6X8, OIL SOLD

A few years ago we were on vacation with my daughter's family when my granddaughter disapeared. We finally found her in my "blue room" playing her guitar. I have been saving this photo for some time and finally it seemed like the right time to paint the scene.
Happy New Year everyone!

GEISHA, 6X8, OIL, SOLD

Did everyone have a great Christmas? I hope so. I was thinking about taking off this week and trying to re-group, but it has become a personal challenge to me to be more consistent with my posting, so here I am. I just finished this up and have a few more likely candidates so I may have another geisha to show you tomorrow.

DAYDREAMER-SOLD

TAGGED AGAIN!!! See previous post! Actually, one of my favorite artists, Kathy Weber has tagged me this time. Kathy is a master at capturing light. Her paintings always give me a "sunny outlook" and I highly recommend a visit to her blog. Hopefully she will forgive me for not following through with the "tag".

This post is a 5x7 on panel.

THE RED SKIRT - SOLD

It has been an exceedingly busy week with no time for painting, but lots of time chasing three grandchildren, cooking turkey and baking somewhere around 140 dozen Christmas cookies. Sooo, I am repeating this painting, which is one of my favorites, and was the first one I posted when I started my blog. I don't imagine anyone saw it the first time around anyway.

A few weeks ago I was tagged by two of my favorite artists, which I enjoyed and was happy to pass on. I really like going to all the blogs and reading about everyone's interesting lives. Now in the past week I have been tagged by the wonderful artist
Debbi SmithRourke and given the Premio Dardos Award by two great and prolific Great Britain artists, Sharon Wright and CarolAnn. This award requires I nominate 15 artists (each time). Thanks so much to all of you. I cannot express how important it is to me to read your comments and positive reactions to my art. As you know, being an artist can be a lonely business, and when you don't sell much, that often translates into not getting much acceptance of your work. So, I appreciate it greatly. However, I don't know another 37 artists to nominate, so I hope you all will understand when I chose not to participate this time around.
