I was in the mood to paint flowers and found some pretty roses at the market. I put it in a shadowbox and threw strong light on it to create the shadow. The vase is special to me as it was a gift from a dear friend. I thought a rose and heart would be appropriate for this time of the year.

RED PEPPER, 5X7, OIL,SOLD
My market had the most beautiful, perfect red bell peppers this week. I picked out a fat yummy (I know it is sweet because it was a great snack) one and ran home to paint. I have great light streaming into my house during the winter months, that really nice strong cool sunlight, so this time of the year, I paint still life. This one was a struggle in the beginning but I really enjoyed the last half. Some days my paint just doesn't seem to have the right consistency . Does anyone else have that problem?
Today I have one painting at 1/2 price for 24 hours on my Etsy site. Read the shop announcement to find the painting.

PEAR DUO, 6X8, OIL,SOLD
This is the last public appearance made by my buddy the pear with a leaf. You might remember him from a week or so ago. Here he is shown, lounging on my glass table, bathed in cool winter light, casting shadows with his friend.
It was kind of interesting to paint this pear three times. The interest for me came in the different colors I saw each time and how it dictated my painting techniques. For me, that is what keeps me interested in painting. I guess I am not at the point where I can visualize how my completed painting will look. Often it is very surprising to me.

STALKING EGRET,6x8, OIL, SOLD
I think waterbirds are so interesting to watch. Here in Florida we have such a large variety of them. I would not attempt to name them all, but I'm pretty sure this is an egret, maybe even a Snowy Egret. I think they are one of the prettier birds around and when they have their plumes up they are almost as showy as a peacock.
I enjoyed painting this little piece, especially layering on the thick creamy paint on his back. Almost as good as eating ice cream!

CELEBRATION, 6X8, OIL SOLD
I took this to our Monday morning paint group several months ago, and my efforts that morning were in vain. A DREADED WIPER!! Today, I was looking for something interesting to paint and came across this photo, so I decided to give it a second try. I must say I enjoyed the effort. It always bothers me when I give up on something, so I felt good about the outcome today. Did I mention that the paint is so thick in some spots that it probably won't dry in my lifetime.

MY BUDDY, 6X8, OIL, SOLD
This guy is always hanging around the docks where we keep our boat. Although I didn't paint it in, I can tell it is the same pelican because he has been tagged and wears a metal band on his left leg. I think it is written somewhere that if you are an artist and reside in the state of Florida, that you MUST paint at least one pelican. This is my first one, I wanted to fulfill my requirements before the pelican police caught up with me.

THE BROWN DUCK, 6X8, OIL,SOLD
Sometime back I did a couple of duck paintings and promised to do another. One thing led to another and the project got put on the back burner. The mood finally struck and I painted this one. The ducks are in the mountains of North Carolina and the thing that attracted me to them was the beautiful water color. The lake is surrounded by thousands of trees and the water at the marina, where I took this photo, is a brilliant emerald green. So brilliant, it looks artificial. On this work, the sky is reflecting in the water and the green shows only in the shadow.

LAZY PEAR, 5X7, OIL,SOLD
One thing I love to paint is a pear. They are so beautiful and graceful and each one is shaped differently. When I fould one with a leaf, I could hardly wait to get home and paint.
This time of year, I get great light on my glass table. When I placed the pear and saw the great double shadow and all the blue highlights, I was sold. This is number one in what is sure to be my pear series. I already painted number two and have at least two more in mind. Sooo, I hope you like pears too!
Today is Thursday, the day I place one of my paintings on sale 1/2 price for 24 hours. This week the sale piece is "Whittier River House"8x8, oil. Sale ends at 3 PM EST. Friday.

BLUE HERON, 5X7, OIL, SOLD
I found this heron at the park one day and chased him down snapping photos like crazy. He kept stretching his neck out straight and I wanted a shot of him with his curved neck. As soon as he gave me what I wanted, I left him in peace.
Tomorrow is Thursday, the day I list one of my paintings at 1/2 price for 24 hours. Check it out tomorrow!

WAVES, 5X7, OIL,SOLD
I have not done a seascape for awhile, and I do enjoy the process, so I gave it another try. It is a push/pull thing with me. I am always torn between adding more detail, and giving just the basic information. Which do you prefer?

JILL IN RED, 5X7, OIL, SOLD
A few years ago, one of the my friend's daughter did a photo shoot with me. She is a really stunning lady and showed up in a killer red dress. I probably did 100 shots and did two paintings from it. This is the third, just a quickie. I realized that I was shying away from figures, so I have set a new goal to do several of them.

WINTER MARSH, 5X7, OIL, ABSTRACT,SOLD
I love the marshes as much in the winter as in summer and spring. Instead of spring green, they are subtle muted shades of taupe, mauve, coral and lavender.
I have been honored to have one of my paintings featured on a great blog is promoting artwork for under $50.00. I hope you all will check it out here. Kelly has done a great job of promoting original art and instructing buyers on terminology. Thank you, Kelly.

MIAMI SUNRISE, 5X7, OIL, ABSTRACT, SOLD
When I stand at the easel these days, I have no idea what is going to come out. It is an exciting journey, but also scary. After several days of abstract paintings, I have the desire to paint in a more realistic style, just to see if I can still do it. Insecure me!!
I have decided to have a mini 24/hour sale on my Etsy site, every Thursday. I pick one painting and cut the price in half for 24 hours only. Last week, Gabriele from Vancouver, BC was the lucky winner. Check it out tomorrow!

THE BEST BAR IN COCOA BEACH, 6X8, OIL, SOLD
How could you not love this place? Sitting out in the middle of the ocean at Cocoa Beach Pier, look north and see cruise boats leaving from Pt. Canaveral or maybe a missile going off from the Cape, fishermen and sea breezes, surfers waiting for waves. The perfect place to sit down, have a cold one and enjoy.
We are enduring a cold spell here this week. The colder it gets, the more I am drawn to painting beach scenes.

BEACH UMBRELLA, 5X7, OIL, SOLD
I don't know how the weather is where you are, but it is down right cold here in sunny Florida. We have had several days with (gasp) freezing temperatures at night. I hope the Florida Tourist Bureau doesn't get wind of this post, they might come after me for revealing the news that, yes, it does occasionally get cold here. Anyway, I though a nice sunny beach scene would be a welcome change of pace.

THE DESERT, 6X8, OIL,SOLD
Another cloud scene, this one in the southwest. The colors and light are so different from the east coast. You just know this is hot and dry as opposed to the heavy atmosphere in the marsh and Miami paintings I have been posting.
