RED PEPPER SLICES, 8X10, OIL

I don't usually get direct light in my house, but this time of year, when the sun in low, it streams in. I always get into still life then as I can usually get some very nice photos of set-ups. Oooh, I heard you all shutter at the thought of painting from photos instead of life, but that is what works best for me.

I tried to "puzzle paint" on this one, carefully placing each brushstroke, judging the color for temperature and value and finishing in one layer.

Wow, what a great painting. Its loose, but so lifelike...I feel I could pick up that piece and take a bite.(the piece in the back) I'm amazed that you can judge the values in one go. I'm forever adjusting and correcting what I mess up. This certainly works for you.
