RED RUBY GRAPE HALF, 5X7, OIL

I am really having fun working on this series of half fruits and vegetables.  Here is one tiny grape, cut in half and sitting on my window sill with the light behind.  Fruit is so interesting viewed from the inside.  It is thrilling to me when I photograph these items and find the one photo that has the composition that I cannot resist.  Guess my life (or lack of) is pretty pathetic!  Anyway, I had fun on this one and I have a few more coming up this week.

This does not make your life pathetic. It only makes your life artistic! Finding things that get our passion aroused and working to duplicate that emotion is what art is all about. Its a far cry from pathetic!

Keep having fun...

Hello Carol,
Glad I ran into your site this morning. I love your pieces. I too do not find things I want to paint over and over and find myself constantly looking in the shadows, around and under things for that different perspective on something to paint it. I work in acrylics and have just done a couple of watercolors. I hope you'll come by and check out the LIMITED SPACE ART STUDIO which is my art blog and let me know what you think. I am self-taught and started painting 6 yr ago. I admire artists like yourself and study your works constantly to pick up hints which I try to emulate to better my work. I live in the hills in Maine, USA and there are no artclasses I can attend so I am literally on my own with this. Love what you do with paint!

Beautiful painting! Not in the least pathetic! I've begun doing the "grateful list" when I feel that way, but I can so relate.

Love this little beauty! I can see you hunched over with your exacto knife trying to cut the tiny thing in half with surgical precision. I really like the background in this one as well. Those white geometrical lines frame it and zoom the eye right to the fruit.

Very nice little painting. Looks as though it was fun. I guess we are all a bit pathetic with what inspires us.

Hello, Carol,

This is my first visit to your blog and I really enjoy your work. Specifically, the abstraction, the application of your paint, and the strong sense of color and value are all excellent. I also love the statement in your profile that you feel the desire to paint different things, as opposed to subjects of only one category. Judging from your work, I think that desire means, rather than needing to be a better organized artist, that you are both talented enough AND organized enough to create compelling art from whatever you choose to. Very impressive.
