ANOTHER VIEW OF PEARS, OIL, 5X7, SOLD

Kind of, sort of, abstract pears. I have nothing to say about this. I can no longer justify my pear fetish. Tomorrow I enter the Pear, 12 step program. Tonight, I paint p-p-p-p-p-p-????

Thank you Kelley. If you are not familiar with her blog, please check it out as she is a wonderful artist. Scroll down a week or two and check out her painting "Grandpa Crump's Lunch Bucket". It is truely a masterpiece.

RIGHT HANDED PEAR, 5X7, OIL, SOLD

My friend, Carmen, fell and broke her wrist recently. She is a wonderful artist and very upset at the thought of not painting for a couple of months. So, she started painting with her non-dominent hand! Just like that, she began to turn out beautiful paintings. A few weeks ago, Carmen was in charge of our weekly painting session. Her challenge was for all of us to switch our painting hands. I am left handed, so this is what I came up with with my right hand. It was very interesting to find out that it is almost as much a brain exercise as a dexterity exercise. We were all amazed and excited to see what we could do with our formally useless hands.
Check out Carmen's blog here to see her beautiful paintings with that other hand.
Today is Thursday, the day I place one of my paintings on sale at 1/2 price for 24 hours. Check out my Etsy site and read the shop announcement to find the painting on sale.

Sunshine Award

I seem to be falling behind a little more every day. No matter what time I get up and start my day, I seem to end it a little later than the day before and with a longer list than I started with. E-mails are going unanswered and thank you's have not been written. I would not allow this behavior from my grandchilden!

Gwen Bell , Karen Bruson and Claire Kayser have recently graced me with the Sunshine Award. It seems that every blog I go on these days, has received this award, and has passed it on to 12 blogs. Twelve artists are a lot of artists, and although there are at least 100 out there in bloggerland that I think deserve this award much more than I, they have already been justly crowned several times. Sooo, I am not going to pay it forward, but I do want to thank Gwen, Karen and Claire. These three very talented and lovely ladies have wonderful blogs of their own. They are all creative and exciting painters. I hope you will visit their blogs and view their wonderful work.

Have you visited the fun blog "Last Cup of Coffee"? Myra has been very busy lately. As if her beautiful paintings and witty commentary is not enough, she is creating another of her killer videos. Although it is not yet ready for publication, she has several of her earlier videos on her site, including a recent one featuring Vincent VanGogh and his work and one featuring a tango series which is to die for! I urge you to view them all, you will enjoy them!

Well, that is how I wrote this post, but before I could publish it, Myra finished her latest video named "Apple, the movie" and two of my paintings are supporting actors. You must go to her blog (link in previous paragraph) and view it! Myra also gave me another Sunshine Award. Thank you Myra for the award and for featuring my paintings in your great video.

DONNA'S TEAPOT, 5X7, OIL, NFS

This was a fun exercise that our paint group did. We printed two photos, one in color and one in black and white. Then we studied the one in color and put it away, and, painted the scene with only the black and white photo as reference. A great exercise in values. Try it!

Today is Thursday, so check out my Etsy store here for my 1/2 price painting, 24 hour sale. Check the shop announcement to find the painting on sale.

THE TEAPOT, 5X7, OIL, SOLD

My friend, Donna, has the most wonderful collection of teapots. One day I asked her if I could paint some of them. Of course she agreed and we spent several hours photographing. This one looks like it should belong to Minnie Mouse with all the bright colors.

THE CAT, 5X7, OIL

We live close to the intercoastal in Florida and one morning I went out for a photo shoot just as the sun was coming up. One of the places I visited was Eau Gallie Yacht Club in Indian Harbor Beach. Here I found this cat sitting in the still water with the causeway and buildings in the background.

TANGERINE, 5X7, OIL,SOLD

You can tell what time of year it is without looking outside, just by the still life paintings on the blogs. Everyone is doing oranges, so I found these juicy tangerines at the grocery and brought a few home to paint and enjoy! I do have to say that blue/orange is one of my favorite combinations. Anyway, my tangerine curse is still with me. I have never painted a tangerine or orange that I am satisfied with. I feel this is an improvement, at least, as I didn't wipe it.

LOOKING FOR LUNCH, 5X7, OIL SOLD

I met this guy one day at the Cocoa Beach Pier. The pier is filled with fishermen, so of course, it is also filled with sea birds. They love to raid your bait bucket when you are not looking so you must keep an eye on your fishing pole and that other eye, the one in the back of your head, looking out for bait thieves. I do enjoy watching them as they skim over the waves so gracefully and then do a totally awkard dive bomb when they spy lunch.

THE MANTLE, 6X8, OIL SOLD

Another view of my favorite vase (see post from Friday) along with one of my pastel paintings. I keep waiting for Karin Jurick to paint one of my works, but alas, it has not happened so I am forced to do it myself. (Just kidding, Karin)

RED PEPPER SLICES, 8X10, OIL

I don't usually get direct light in my house, but this time of year, when the sun in low, it streams in. I always get into still life then as I can usually get some very nice photos of set-ups. Oooh, I heard you all shutter at the thought of painting from photos instead of life, but that is what works best for me.

I tried to "puzzle paint" on this one, carefully placing each brushstroke, judging the color for temperature and value and finishing in one layer.
