BUDDIES, 6X8, OIL SOLD
There is nothing like the company of your dog. They are fun, and faithful and when you are a young girl, they can add so much to your life. I was raised as an only child and some of my best childhood memories involve my pet dogs. This girl was sitting on a rock high over the Nantahala River at NOC, watching the kayaks run the rapids.

GRAPES ON WINDOWSILL, 6X8, OIL, SOLD
Grapes are my favorites, to eat. Black, green, red. As long as they don't have seeds, I will eat them and enjoy every one. I also like wine. That is all I'm going to say about that. So, maybe it is my fondness for grapes that makes me want to paint them. Or maybe it's because they are so easy. Drawing is a no brainer and who's to know if they are too big or too small or shaped a little oddly. But, I think it's the color that attracts me; especially with green grapes. They are so translucent and have all those yummy shades of green and blue, sometimes even purples in the shadows. What could be better than to throw them on a white windowsill and let the light stream in over them.

DRESSING FOR DINNER II, 6X8,OIL
This is one of my favorites. I snapped this photo about 12 years ago. I was babysitting my one and only granddaughter when she decided to play "dress up". She is almost 16 now and learning to drive, but it really seems like only yesterday that she looked like this. Sometimes, I miss this little one.

CUPCAKE DRAMA, 5X7, OIL, CAROL SCHIFF STUDIO, SOLD
Why the drama, you ask? Well, my paint group, Pieces of Eight, is planning an exhibition later this year featuring baked goods. I have a very bad track record painting cupcakes, so far none of my tries have survived the dreaded wipe-off. So I decided to practice a little. I decided to pump the colors up as much as I could (more drama) and miracle of all miracles, I liked it! So this may be my only cupcake painting on record. I may not push my luck and try for another.

FLORIDA SURF, 8X10, OIL, SOLD
Florida is graced with the most amazing coastline and I am very happy to say that so far, the east coast has had no damage from the Gulf disaster. We are enjoying the summer, while at the same time, it feels a little like having a time bomb ticking away. To make matters worse, nobody knows what to expect if (when) a good ole tropical storm or hurricane comes blowing through. So for the time being, we cross our fingers, pray a lot and wait to see what will be our future.

CHOCOLATE PUDDING, 5X7, OIL
Last week a few of my painting buddies got together for an additional paint date. Donna Vines invited us to her beautiful studio. She had a cupcake and this yummy bowl of homemade chocolate pudding with hand whipped cream as set ups. Naturally we rushed through the painting portion so that we could get to the eating portion. No "starving artists" in our group!

REFLECTIONS,6X8, ORIGINAL OIL
Here we have a pear sitting on a glass table top with natural light shining in behind. It gives off a triple reflection that is really quite beautiful. I especially like the bright aqua reflection that glass sometimes gives.
Do you ever get bored with painting? I never do. That is the most wonderful thing about being an artist. Some days I have trouble getting inspired, but as soon I find a subject and get started,
I get totally involved in the project. Right now, I am rushing to get all my little projects done so I can get back in the studio and finish a portrait of my granddaughter. I think I could be a hermit as long as I had plenty of oil paint.

GREEN GRAPES AND LEMON, 6X8, OIL, SOLD
It is sooo late and I am sooo tired, I don't have much to say about this painting. I hope you enjoy it and I will try to do a better job next time.
Thanks to everyone who has been so kind as to leave me wonderful encouraging comments and best wishes on the new website. I cannot tell you how important your comments are to me. Of course, most of you are artists with your own blogs, so I guess you know exactly what I mean.

LILY, 6X8, OIL, SOLD
I don't paint a lot of flowers so I thought I would give one a try. This is from a photo I took a couple of years ago in North Carolina. I found this beautiful plant full of blooms in a neighbor's yard. The plant had a least 10 blooms on it and stood waist high.

GOLDEN MARSH II, 5X7, OIL
Just a little marsh scene. I find it very relaxing to turn out a few of these simple paintings occasionally. After several hours spent on a more complex painting, this feels almost as good as a massage.
