GUITAR PRACTICE, 6X8, OIL SOLD

A few years ago we were on vacation with my daughter's family when my granddaughter disapeared. We finally found her in my "blue room" playing her guitar. I have been saving this photo for some time and finally it seemed like the right time to paint the scene.
Happy New Year everyone!

BIG RED, 5X7, OIL,

Peppers anyone?? We painted this set-up during our weekly group painting session. I like the vibrant red and orange against the equally vibrant turquoise background. I have never been accused of being subtle.

GEISHA II, 6X8, OIL SOLD

This is the second geisha painting, as I promised yesterday. I have always been drawn to Oriental items, especially the back side of geishas. We lived in the Orient for amost 3 years although it was a long time ago. I guess my Oriental admiration is re-surfacing. Tune in tomorrow.

GEISHA, 6X8, OIL, SOLD

Did everyone have a great Christmas? I hope so. I was thinking about taking off this week and trying to re-group, but it has become a personal challenge to me to be more consistent with my posting, so here I am. I just finished this up and have a few more likely candidates so I may have another geisha to show you tomorrow.

STORM OVER LOW COUNTRY, 5X7,SOLD, OIL

Another big storm over the low country. I don't know why this fascinates me so much. I find myself painting these stormy marsh scenes over and over. Maybe it is the lime green/dusty purple color combination. ???

ANOTHER FALL LANDSCAPE, 5X7, OIL, SOLD

Another little landscape from my trip to West Virginia. Is it abstract?? Is it impressionistic??

Is it a half-breed??? Sorry for the glare.

VALLEY VIEW, 5X7, OIL,SOLD

Our summer home in North Carolina is in the valley. In the mornings, the smoke lays in the valley and as morning goes on, it burns off and the sun comes out, much like fog. It is quite like watching the ocean, an ever changing view.

BLUEBERRY BUSH, 5X7, OIL, SOLD

We have blueberry bushes on our property in North Carolina and last year I went down and snapped a few photos. This image has been waiting in my files and finally I was in the mood to paint it. I really liked the colors of the berries on this branch.
I have decided that Thursday's are going to be special on my Etsy site, CarolSchiffStudio. So each week I will put one painting on sale at 1/2 price for 24 hours. Today is the first day of this promotion. Check it out!

TOUR EIFFEL, 6X8, ABSTRACT, OIL,SOLD

Tour Eiffel, did you know it "sparkles" for 10 minutes at the top of the hour every evening?
What an exciting sight to see. Here it is not sparkling, but is decked out in its evening lights and surrounded by the usual admiring crowds.

ONCE UPON A TIME, 5X7, OIL, ABSTRACT,SOLD

As you can tell by the name, this one reminds me of a little fairytale. I cannot really tell you where my head was when I painted it, but I do remember that I enjoyed the process.
Is anyone, other than me, frustrated by the tagging process on blogger?? Maybe I just don't do it right. Once I use a tag, it will automatically appear when I type in the first few letters, which sounds like a good thing. But, when I type" landscape", I get "abstract landscape" and when I type "mountain" it gives me "Smoky Mountain" etc. Is there a way to stop this from happening? Do I need to change a setting? It gets very annoying sometimes. Not all of my landscapes are abstract!

CHRISTMAS CATCUS, 5X7, OIL

This time of the year, I have great light streaming in through my windows. I love to photograph objects on the window sill because of the great shadows. I loved the abstract shadows on this piece.

CARMEN'S TEAPOT, 5X7, OIL, SOLD

Just a little set-up that my paint group worked on some time ago. Somehow, I forgot to post it.
Yesterday we had a successful studio tour and sale. Thanks you Susie, who was our first customer and was followed by many friends, neighbors, new and repeat customers. There were seven artists at my location and we all appreciate your support of our passion and the extra effort that was made to come out in the mist of two days of steady rain. Seven happy artists went to sleep last night dreaming of empty studio storage and new paintings to come.

CONLEY'S CREEK ROAD III, ABSTRACT, OIL,SOLD, 11X14

A view of our "neighborhood" in North Carolina.
Those of you that follow my blog may remember that about a month ago I put out a plea for help. I had taken a road trip to West Virginia during peak leaf season and then promptly come home and deleted all my photos before getting them onto my computer. I was so uptset with myself to the point that I was thinking of another trip next October.
With the help of a friend, Donna Vines, I was able to recapture all my photos. It seems that when you "delete" on the camera card, it doesn't really delete at all. It just starts re-writing over your existing photos. Yesterday I took my camera to a local camera store and within 30 minutes I walked out with a CD of all my "lost" photos. Well not all. I did loose about 6 photos that I had written over in the past month. I send this information to you to file away in case you are ever in the situation I was in. While at the store, they showed me their file of hundreds of people who had done the same thing I did. Delete before downloading. It can happen!!

CHRISTMAS KITTY, 8X10, OIL, SOLD

My daughter-in-law is a big time animal advocate, so none of us were surprised a few years ago when she brought this little kitten home from her job at a local vets. office. The kitten was born to a feral cat. She fed it with an eyedropper and soon Frankie was spunky and ruled the roost. She also had a fascination with the Christmas tree and would climb it and bat at the glass balls. Many ornaments bit the dust that year.

BLUE HERON, 11X14, PASTEL, SOLD

This is one of my favorite pastel paintings, done 6-7 years ago. I chased this bird all over the riverside, trying to get the perfect photo. Finally came up with this one! It's not easy being a wildlife artist!
I have free shipping in USA and Canada on 5x7's through Monday. Just go to my Etsy site.

LANDSCAPE WITH POPLARS, after Cezanne, 11x14 SOLD

A few years ago, my paint group studied the Masters for about 6-8 months. We ended up with a good many paintings and a lot of knowledge that we didn't have before. I highly recommed it to anyone interested.
This is a busy week for me and I wanted to keep posting, so I will probably use this week to dig up a few oldies but goodies. Enjoy!

EBONY AND IVORY, 6X8, OIL,SOLD

Remember the "marina pup" I posted about a while ago? Well, these ducks live at the same marina. I cannot help but think of the great song "Ebony and Ivory" when I look at this work. I had the song running through my head the entire time I was painting.

JOHN DENVER WAS RIGHT, 5X7 OIL-SOLD

Just returning home from a trip to West Virginia, Morgantown area, I must say John knew of what he was speaking. I would be hard pressed to come up with an area that is more beautiful that WVA in the fall. We were lucky enough to be there during the peak leaf season, and being starved for fall colors (I am a Floridian) I was suitably impressed.

CAROLINA STORM, 8X10, ABSTRACT, CA SCHIFF, OIL SOLD

Life has been very very busy for me this week. My little internet work took a hit!
This painting was featured on Etsy's gift guide and storque. To give you an idea of what that means, I usually get 20-40 hits a day on my little abstract site, Carolonedge, on Wednesday I had 2083 hits, 700+ on Thursday. Have not checked today, but the firestorm is over, now I am just mopping up. If this sounds like I am complaining, I"M NOT, it was so exciting, and I was tied to the keyboard, responding to inquirys for 2 days.
The power of Etsy is amazing. I read they have over 1 million subscribers. Maybe this went out to 100,000, who all saw my painting. 2083 cared enough to click through to my site. I find it to be a great site and I am constantly amazed at how helpful and caring the other sellers on the site can be. GOOOOO ETSY!!!!!

BLOG AWARD

Imagine my surprise when Marie Theron awarded me this honor! Marie is a kind soul who lives on the western coast of Africa (how exotic is that) painting and blogging, just like the rest of us. Thank you Marie, for all the nice comments you leave, and for sending this little ray of sunshine to me. I will do my best to follow the rules of sending it to 7 artists along with 7 facts about me, but I warn you I am pretty boring.

1) I have lived through 1 earthquake (Okinawa 65) and probably close to 25 hurricanes, so far.

2) I traveled the world with my Air Force husband for 15 years.

3) My favorite time of year is fall, especially if there are maple trees around.

4) I worked as a volunteer with the Guardian ad Litem progam for 6 years and helped to get 8 children adopted.

5)I once fell off a sailboat.

6)I had to drive myself to the hospital when my son was born (including over a mountain).

7)My mother is 89 and we "do lunch" every week.

I will spend some time thinking about who to pass this award on too. More about that later!

MOUNTAIN LAKE, 5X7, OIL,SOLD

Fontana Lake, one of many beautiful scenes in western North Carolina. I recently returned from a trip to West Virginia, my first, and I have to say, John Denver was right! It was stunning with perfect weather and gorgeous fall foliage. I took hundreds of photos and had at least 10 paintings lined up, complete with names. Cheat Lake, Cooper's Rock, New River, farms and a great neighborhood in Morgantown called South Park, full of Victorian homes and maple trees in full color. Of course, I accidently deleted all from my camera before downloading them on the computer!!!!! So, I am putting out a plea, if anyone out there has landscape photos of W VA they would like to share with me, I would be thrilled and would send you a print of any painting I complete from your photo.

LIMES AND LEMONS, 5X7, OIL

We were touring a beautiful art deco building in Ashville one summer, or rather, peering in through the door, when one of the servers in the very upscale restuarant invited us in for a tour. On the second floor was a beautiful bar, set up and ready for the evening rush, with a beautiful platter or limes and lemons waiting for the action.

AND THEY COULDN'T PUT HUMPTY TOGETHER AGAIN, 6X8, OIL

This month, our group challenge was an egg. Being me, I decided to get an egg yolk on it's way into the bowl. I actually got the shot, but the shutter speed was wrong so I settled for this one. Let me tell you it was not easy, reaching inside the light box, broken egg in one hand and camera in the other, trying to manipulate both at the correct time. Anyway, this is one of two paintings I did. The other was posted a few days ago.

DRAGON FRUIT AND LIMES. 5X7, OIL, SOLD

Yes, this is a for real fruit! Probably something you have never tasted or even seen, unless you live in Mexico! My friend, Carmen Beecher brought this in as a set up for our paint group one day. Needless to say, none of us had ever seen or heard of this particular breed before. When we were done painting, we cut it open. It had a melon type center, no pit, white studded with tiny black specks. Very mild but pleasant flavor, very refreshing. If you see one at your market, don't be afraid. And look how pretty it is to paint!

THE INCREDIBLE, EDIBLE EGG, 8X10. OIL, SOLD

Our paint group is doing a challenge about every other month. This time it was my turn to choose a subject, so I went for the egg. It was something I always wanted to paint but somehow never got around to doing it. So here it is! Ta da!! I had so much fun, I did not one but two egg paintings .

SURFING WEATHER, 5X7, OIL, SOLD

I lucked out and went to the beach one day,and was able to get some great surf photos. I didn't realize until later that a tropical storm was passing about 200 miles off shore, which was the reason for the larger than normal waves. The surfers were coming to the beach in droves!
