Flipper Lives! Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Dolphin Giclee Print

This was a fun painting for me.  Maybe it's the subject matter, but I smiled the whole time.

A few summers ago, we spent a few days in Key Largo, with our grandson.  The one thing he was really looking forward to was swimming with the dolphins.  He loved every minute of it and later told me he had met a life long goal by doing so.  (He was 13).

While I was watching, I snapped this shot of one of the dolphins, and have had it on my list of subjects to paint for months.

Sometimes, many times, I find myself putting off certain subjects, afraid that I am not accomplished enough to do them justice.  Such was the case here.

I am happy I finally gave it a try, and was pleased with the results.  I will have to push myself more in the future, when I find myself backing off a subject that I am unfamiliar with.

Hope you have a great day!

Tropical Fish Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Palette Knife Painting

A few years ago, we visited the coral reef off Key Largo.  Although I get sea sick, when the boat is not under power, I still enjoyed seeing the colorful tropical fish, and of course, the trip out and back.

Beautiful turquoise waters, stunning landscapes, fabulous wildlife.....the perfect day.

I am enjoying these palette knife paintings immensely.  I have been so intense about my brush work, that I had ignored the palette knife for months.  Now that I am working with it again, I am enjoying the freedom it brings.

Thanks for reading my blog today.

Life is good in North Carolina, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Blue Ridge Highway, 6x8" Oil,

Last fall, we took a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  It was a crisp, sunny day and my camera was busy clicking away.

It's hard to go wrong with a blue and yellow painting.....it just shouts "Cheerful".  The background was painted  with a brush, but I used a palette knife on the flowers and grasses.  That's when it started to be really fun!

I feel like I was able to capture the feel of the day......I hope it made you smile!

Florida Wildlife Egret Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, SOLD

One of the joys, of living in Florida, was the abundant wildlife.  It was thrilling to view these majestic birds, almost daily, from my window.

This is one of those few paintings, that seemed to come easily.  It has left me eager to return to the easel, re-charged and ready to tackle my next project.  I love it when that happens!!

Coral Reef Painting, Textured Palette Knife Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 8x8x1.5" Oil

This is another in my "Coral Reef" series, that were inspired by a trip to Key Largo.

Purchase here

I was also inspired by artist Lynn Boggess, an artist, whose work I admire.  Lynn works on huge canvases, which he carries into the mountains, and paints plein aire.  He paints with paint trowels instead of a brush and brings incredible texture to his works.

I worked on a small canvas, with a palette knife.

Thanks for reading my blog today.

Flower Painting, Spring Floral, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" Oil on Panel

I visited the Biltmore Conservatory, here in Asheville, and found inspiration, in every direction!

Purchase Here

I was not finished with this scene!  I wanted to do another version, so I cropped my original image and returned to the easel.

(contact me to purchase a print)

Maybe, it was the color combination, but I still had more to say.  This time I started with a complete abstract, nothing but color.  As I painted, it became a little more realistic.  I did my best to stop before over-working the piece.

I enjoyed the progression.  Which one do you prefer?
