Wildlife Painting | Blue Heron Art | Small Oil Painting | Daily Painting | Flight by Carol Schiff | 6x18x1.5 Oil SOLD

I was standing on the dock with my camera when this gorgeous Great Blue Heron flew towards me and landed on the railing nearby.  My lucky day!  I snapped several photos of this beautiful specimen and have painted him twice.

I was thrilled to get a photograph of him flying, something that usually doesn't work out for me.

I used my palette knife to obtain the texture of the water.

You may remember seeing this first painting a short time ago.

I don't think this bird was friendly so much......just determined.  Behind me on the dock were several fishermen and he was hoping for an effortless meal.

Thanks for reading my blog today.

Florida Landscape | Small Oil Painting | Daily Painting | Palm Grove by Carol Schiff | 8x6" Oil | SOLD

I was on a photo shoot one late afternoon, walking though wetlands and knee high grasses.  I was getting a little anxious as the wildlife and creepy crawlies get more active as the sun goes down.  When I came home, I found several reference photos that I was interested in painting, which made it all worth while.

I liked the way the early evening light was hitting these palms, turning them from gray to gold.  This is a little study for a much larger piece that I am interested in trying.  Hopefully, I can get to it soon.

Sunflower Painting | Flower Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | "Happy Days, SOLD, by Carol Schiff | 8x10x.75" Oil

Summer is in full swing, so it seems like the perfect time for a sunflower painting.

I always wanted to grow some in my yard, but I think in Florida our planting season would be different than most sunflower states.  This year, I need to plan ahead and try to buy some seeds in February and give them a try.

There are plenty of sunflowers in the mountains.  In fact, the one in my reference photo was from western North Carolina smack in the middle of the Smoky Mountains.  Next time I go up there, I will  do some sunflower research!

Thank you for visiting my blog today.

Daily Painting | Mixed Media Abstract | Contemporary Art | Metallic Movement by Carol Schiff | 6x12x1.5" Acrylic SOLD

This is one of my favorite abstract poured paint piece.  I poured several colors of acrylic, including some metallic colors, over the canvas.  Then the fun began as I tried to manipulate the canvas to help the paint flow into a pleasing design.

That probably sounds very easy, but I beg to differ.  It is VERY messy and very difficult to do.  When I would move the paint where I wanted it in one area, another area was destroyed!  I have the utmost respect for artists, like Kimberly Conrad, who do this routinely.

The metallic gold really catches the light and makes it special.

I did two similar pieces, using the same colors.

I usually end up tossing these out, or try to use them as an under painting, as the seldom feel like successful pieces to me.  It has been some time since I tried this....I think I am ready to give it another try,

Abstract Landscape Painting | Contemporary Art | Palette Knife Painting | HUES by Carol Schiff | 18x36x1.5" Oil

I wanted to do an abstract landscape in a larger size than I have worked with in the past.  I remembered driving through the fields of Georgia just as the sun broke over the horizon one morning, and decided to paint based on that memory.

I enjoyed the experience of painting on a larger scale and tried hard to keep the freshness of my smaller abstracts.

We used to say that photos never lie, but as you know, that is not true these days.  I just returned from a short trip to New York City with my daughter and grandson.  He had lots of fun taking photos that lie.  This is one of my favorites.....

We also walked by a sports show being filmed on TV.  That is my grandson in the background, making like the circus strong man.  Hope they didn't mind!

Stormy Landscape Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Coastal Collision II by Carol Schiff | 11x14x1.5 Oil

This stormy landscape painting is a scene I see most every afternoon in the summer, here in Florida.  The warm breezes blow across the state from the west and collide with the cool ocean breezes from the east.  Instant Storm!

I painted this in oil and using a palette knife to capture the feel of impending doom.  You know that feeling.....the black clouds suddenly roll in...the temperature drops 10 or 15 degrees in what seems like seconds and the wind kicks in.  Time to run for cover!

I painted on 11x14x1.5" canvas and painted the sides black making framing an option.

Thanks for reading my blog today......stay dry out there!

Abstract Landscape | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Seeing Better Days by Carol Schiff | 6x8 Oil

This abstract landscape of an isolated structure in blazing sunlight is a memory of the days I lived in Louisiana and Texas.  Often we would find these abandoned structures awaiting a new life.

But it could also be from the countryside of Arizona or even North Dakota, where the weather is very rugged.  Can you tell I moved a lot in my life?  Yes, I spent years and years following my Air Force husband from location to location.  We are so happy to have spread our roots in Florida and North Carolina.

I have to be in the mood to paint with a palette knife, but when I is really fun (and in my case messy).  Most of my favorite artwork (by me) has a least, some areas of knife work.  I really love the texture which I feel brings a whole new dimension to the piece.

Thanks so much for viewing my abstract landscape today.  I hope you will pin it!

Cow Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Mooooooo" by Carol Schiff SOLD

I posted another cow painting lately, which reminded me that I had another cow daily painting that I had never posted.  This 8x10" oil painting is on a masonite panel.

This is a friendly North Carolina cow.  She was part of a herd that included one calf.  I was surprised to see that as soon as I came up to the field and pulled out my camera, the mother of the calf immediately herded her to the back of the field.  Camera shy......or a helicopter mom?

A friend inquired about the horns on the cow.  A little research informed me that many species of bovines included males and femals with horns.

I like a black frame on this really helps to pop the painting!
