Ocracoke Garden, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Original Wall Decor, Outer Banks, NC

A recent trip to Ocracoke, supplied me with some new painting inspiration.  The island is covered in cedar trees, that have grown in their twisted, windblown contortions.  Beauty is everywhere you look.

Purchase here

The island is located 40 miles off shore of mainland North Carolina, and involves a 2.5 hour ferry ride.  Once on the island, the primary mode of transportation are bicycles and golf carts.

Beautiful marshes on the sound side, and wonderful beaches on the ocean side.

We cannot wait to return!

John Oliver Cabin in Cades Cove, TN, daily painting, small oil painting, rustic wall decor, cabin wall decor

John Oliver was the original settler in the Cades Code area of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.  His cabin still stands, and on the day I was there, there were blazing daylilies surrounding it.

Small Oil Paintings in Black and White, Daily Paintings, Small Oil Paintings,

I recently participated in a small group challenge, to do black and white paintings I chose three small paintings, done in black and white on a red support.  I allowed small amounts of the red to show through, which I believe, gives an interesting warmth to the paintings.

These paintings were all done from photographs of flapper movie stars.

Puppy Painting, Pet Portrait, Commissioned Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" Oil on Canvas

My neighbor Ellen, commissioned me to do paintings of her two fur babies.

I was happy when she loved this painting.  She felt I captured his spirit well.

In some ways, it is more difficult to paint a pet, because the owner is so hyper aware of every little aspect of their beloved animal.  This little guy had hair that stood up straight on top of his head, and super long eyelashes.  The owner looked for that in the portrait, as well as all the color variations of the animal.  She pronounced it a good likeness.....whew!

Outer Banks Marsh Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Palette Knife, 6x8" Oil on Panel

Last month, I visited the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  What a marvelous experience!

Purchase Here
There was a "painting" every place I looked.  The little town of Ocracoke is like a step back in time; very charming and laid back.

This little painting is from a saltwater marsh outside of Ocracoke and the sunset below is very typical of the scenery there.
Purchase here

I hope to return there next spring!
