Apple Blossom Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 9x12x.75 Flower Painting SOLD

A trip to the apple orchard in Waynesville, NC provided me with plenty of reference photos.  How inspiring to see acre after acre of apple trees in full bloom!

purchase here
I am back in Waynesville, now, but there are no apple blossoms in sight...........just mile after mile of pumpkins and gorgeous Red Maple Trees in their full fall colors.

Growing up in NW Ohio, I always looked forward to fall with it's magnificent display of color.  When I moved to Florida at age 18, I didn't miss it at all.  Now that I am a grandmother of college age kids, I missed it a lot!!

Each fall, I try to spend time in the North Carolina Smoky Mountains to feed my need for autumn.

Have a colorful day!

This painting was a real experiment for me.  I wanted to paint a sunset, wildlife and marsh, but could not find a reference image  that I liked.

Then I remebered a workshop I took, many years ago from Fritz vanEeden.  Fritz is an artist of international aclaim.  Among his many talents is his ability to paint images that he pulled from his mind's eye.

I gave it a try!

I started with the direction of the sky and clouds and then laid in the  wetlands below.

I have to admit, I did use a photo reference for the heron.  I just could not visualize all those body parts!

All in all, I was happy the day's efforts, and hopefully, this technique will come in handy in the future.

Thanks for viewing my blog today.

News from Carol Schiff Studio!

Hello all!  It has been very busy here at Carol Schiff Studio and I have some exciting news to share with you.

I have recently opened a site on a wonderful handmade marketplace called  What makes this site different, is that they donate 100% of their profits to needy children.  No billionaire CEO's or stockholders to pay off, just maker's selling their products.

My expenses are much lower on this site, and I am passing that on to my buyer's with lower prices.  Everybody wins!

I hope you will stop bye for a visit:  I add new listings daily.

Painting Wildlife, Grey Squirrel Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, SOLD

Have you ever tried to photograph wildlife?  I have, and consider it an exercise in frustration.  Many blurred images later, my friend and photographer, Ted Fuhrer, offered me the use of his images.  Thanks so much, Ted.

This little guy looks very inquisitive and ready to bolt at the least movement.

I enjoyed experimenting with painting his fur and directing the viewer's eye.  The animal is much the same color as the background in this scene.

I put it in one of my black frames.  They seem to work perfectly for just about any painting.

Happy day to you!

Florida Beach Palette Knife Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Original Coastal or Beach House Art Wall Decor

You gotta love Florida!  Maybe not so much in the summer, but spring, fall and winter are great.

I call this 9x12" palette knife painting "On my way to the beach".  Florida is full of these little paths that end at the ocean.

I had fun slinging paint around on this one and tried to keep my hues as vibrant as they were on this sunny, bright  and hot, hot, hot, day.

I guess I am a typical artist.  By that, I mean unorganized!

I just found this little painting in the back of my inventory closet.  I must have painted it 6 or 7 years ago!

I always wondered why it didn't sell!

I sit here tonight (Sept 10) listening to the wind howl, the rain pounding, a huge tree down in our yard and another of about 19 tornado warnings on our weather radio going off.  Hurricane Irma has been beating us up all day, with the worse to come about 2:00 a.m.

Trying to do blog posts to distract from the fury outside.

On the bright side, for the time being, we still have power.  The lights flicker, but so far, they have come back on.  That's a biggy!  When we lose power in a hurricane, it usually takes close to a week to get it back.  A long hot, humid week!!

Thanks for reading my blog.

It was a beautiful day, and not long after this hike, we had a picnic.  Yummy sandwiches on home made bread, fresh fruit, delicious apple cake from the orchard, and a beautiful view.  Life at it's best!
