Pear and Plum Still Life, Palette Knife Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" Oil on canvas panel, sold

Have not done a still life, or a palette knife painting for a while, so this one was in my comfort zone.

I naturally tend to lean towards cool colors, so I had fun working all my favorite color relationships.

This scene is a repaint, from years ago.  I couldn't find the original photograph, but I did have a photo of the first painting, so I used that as a guide.  The first painting was done with a brush, which is why I decided to mix it up a little, by using a palette knife this time around.

Hope you enjoy it!

Wildflower Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Summer in the Blue Ridge Mountains, SOLD, 6x8" Oil on Panel

We recently moved to the Asheville area, but, we have been spending time here every summer for years.  This painting is inspired by my many hikes along the highways and byways of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

It makes by heart sing, to find these little pockets of beauty, on the trail.

I hope you find your own little pocket of beauty, along the trail you travel today.

Thanks for visiting my blog.

Mountain Wildflowers, Floral Landscape, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 8x6" Oil on Panel SOLD

Last fall, we took a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  It was a crisp, sunny day and my camera was busy clicking away.

It's hard to go wrong with a blue and yellow just shouts "Cheerful".  The background was painted  with a brush, but I used a palette knife on the flowers and grasses.  That's when it started to be really fun!

I feel like I was able to capture the feel of the day......I hope it made you smile!

Small Landscape Painting, Cabin in the Woods, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" oil on panel, SOLD

This is a small painting I did last fall.

I often passed this cabin, on my daily walks.  I am always inspired by the beauty surrounding me during my walks.  The cabin looked so charming, nestled in the trees, with spots of sunlight hitting it.

This piece is a combination of brush and palette knife.

I have gone without painting for several months due to my move.  I am anxious to return to my new (small) studio, and begin this new version of my daily routine.  I hope I remember how to paint!

Thanks for viewing!

Alligator Painting, Wildlife Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 6x8" Oil on Panel SOLD

These guys are not uncommon sights in Florida.  Sometimes you see them snoozing in the sun next to a road.  Golfer's here usually have a scary encounter to tell.

This was my third attempt to paint this fellow.  I had difficulty getting the drawing correct, as well as the color.  The image I worked from was not exciting. Eventually, I think I worked it out.

Go gators!

Thanks for visiting my blog today.

Wildlife Painting, Tropical Fish Painting, Palette Knife Painting, 9x12x.75" Oil

While unpacking, after moving from Florida to North Carolina, I found a few paintings that were never posted.

This one was inspired by a trip to Key Largo, a few years ago.  One of the highlights of the trip, was a cruise to the coral reefs.

Purchase here
I enjoy painting water with a palette knife and I love texture in a painting.  This piece has both.

A Touch of Spring in the Mountains

We have just left the beaches of Florida and moved to the mountains of western North Carolina.  I am reposting this from a few years ago, as I am still trying to make our new house a home.  PS:  This is a preview of what our surroundings will look like in a few blooms yet!

Everyone loves a touch of spring this time of the year....enjoy!

One afternoon I grabbed my camera and ran outside to capture the beautiful spring day and this is what I found.

I inherited a garden in front of our new home, and everything was coming alive at once...

Fiddleheads were popping up

Dogwood was blooming everywhere I
looked in both pink.....

and white blossoms.  Tulips, lilac and azalea were everywhere and the days were filled with the music of songbirds.

A drive to WaterRock Knob, off the Blue Ridge Parkway, showed less color at the higher elevation, but still beautiful to see.

For an Ohio girl, who has spent most of the last 50 years in Florida, it seemed all my memories of spring were spread out before my eyes.  Don't get me wrong, I truly love living in Florida, but when spring or fall calls, I head to the mountains.

Stay tuned, to see these images interpreted in oil.

Thanks for stopping by today.
