Animal Painting, Cat Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" on Canvas Panel, Hello Kitty SOLD

This cat lives at our local art supply store.  My art group, Pieces of Eight, would meet there each week, and we spend the morning creating, visiting, challenging.....and then have lunch together.

SOLD
Kitty loves to interact with us, jumping in the middle of our paintings, climbing into our art bags, doing her cat thing.  Usually mid morning, she climbs into her favorite sleeping place....an artist browser.  For those of you who don't know, it is a canvas sling, much like a hammock.  That is where I snapped a photo of her, which of course, woke her up.

Can you tell, fom her expression, that she seems less than happy with me?

Hope you have a wonderful day!

Wildlife Painting, Alligator Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 6x8" Original Art

These guys are not uncommon sights in Florida.  Sometimes you see them snoozing in the sun next to a road.  Golfer's here usually have a scary encounter to tell.

SOLD
This was my third attempt to paint this fellow.  I had difficulty getting the drawing correct, as well as the color.  The image I worked from was not exciting. Eventually, I think I worked it out.

Go gators!

Thanks for visiting my blog today.

Coral Reef Painting, Tropical Painting, Daily Painting, 20x24x1.5" Textured Oil Painting

This is another in my coral reef series....the largest so far.  It is highly textured, not with medium, but with paint.

purchase here

I sometimes paint over a failed painting, such as in this case.  Conventional wisdom will advise you to sand down your canvas and start over.  I prefer to let the texture of the failed painting show through.  Sometimes, I also allow pieces of the original art to show.

I orginally had an abstract piece on this canvas, but although I liked some parts of the abstact, I  was not happy with the whole piece.  The canvas set in my studio for several years before I attempted to reuse it.  This technique may not be for everyone, but I am the texture queen, so, it appeals to me.

Thanks for viewing my art today.

Northwest Landscape, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "The Great Northwest" by Carol Schiff, SOLD, 12x16" Oil

My husband and I took our first trip to the Northwest last summer. We were stunned by the gorgeous scenery in every direction.

SOLD
325. + shipping

Obviously, we have pine trees and ocean views in Florida, but, how could they be so very different in Washington and British Columbia?  Everything seemed larger than life with trees towering into the sky and waterfalls tumbling down the sides of mountains.  It was a fabulous trip that we hope to repeat some day.

I painted this, in my studio, on linen attached to board.  As much as I like the idea of painting plein aire, it's not me.  I was taught to paint from images and still do it to this day.

Impressionist Fruit Still Life, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 8x10x1.5" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

In a blatant attempt to get away from flower paintings, today I am posting a still life of fruit,

I have been accused of having to many grayed down hues in my art, so recently, I an trying to focus on more vibrant color....no more pasty pastels!

I would like to report, that my tube of white paint is lasting longer, but it is too soon to tell.

Regardless, I am pleasently surprised with the color I achieved here, so hopefully I am on the right track.

Thanks for reading my blog today, and a special thank you to all who have supported my art and my blog with their purchases.

Small Barn Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Palette Knife Painting, 9x12" Oil

Moving by studio and having a big sale on Etsy!  25% off original paintings.  Check it out!

Last month, my friends and I went on a photo shoot in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  We rode the country roads, looking for scenic farms.

I couldn't resist this old ragged barn, on it's last legs.  I painted with a palette knife hoping to bring the scene to life.

It was a hot September day and the grasses had turned a golden brown.

How nice to be an artist.  I truly believe we train our eyes to see so much beauty, that often goes unnoticed in  daily life.  What a blessing we have!

Island Marketplace, Large Figurative Painting, 52x26x1.5" Original Painting

I consider myself to be a daily painter.  As a daily painter, most of my work is small, many times just 6x8".

My painting today is a different story at 52" x 26".  Not my largest painting ever...but right up there.

Purchase Here

I enjoy painting large, but it does present other issues.  Framing or no frame?  Such a large piece means a large investment in framing....a frame your client may or may not approve.

Where do I store it?  Not everyone has the luxury of a spacious studio.  I am one of those people.  Since downsizing, I have even less space to store unsold artwork.

The logistics of painting such a large piece, is not to be ignored.  My aging knees protest at the thought of climbing up and down a step stool to paint.

So, this piece may continue to be one of my rare, larger efforts.

Thanks for reading my blog today.

Asheville Mountain Sunset Original Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting

We lived in Asheville for a few years, and I never tired of the changing landscapes.  Of course they are famous for autumn trees, but day by day and hour by hour, the view of mountains change.

I painted with a palette knife and tried to keep it uncluttered and maybe just a touch abstract.

Ruby's Nap, Pet Portrait, Daily Painting, Golden Retriever Painting

Well, here I am posting another dog portrait.  There is good reason for that.  I have been working on several commissions for the same gentleman.  He loves his dogs and wanted oils of them.

This is Ruby, enjoying a little shut eye on the porch.  We all love to do that, right?

Florida Landscape Palm Tree Painting, Small Oil Painting, Tropical Wall Decor, Daily Painting

My home state of Florida is a constant source of painting inspiration.

That is a big deal on some days. I often go to my studio to paint and cannot find anything that inspires me.  When that happens, I often pack up and drive to the shore of one of the local rivers or maybe a beach.

Many times I paint from images that I have taken, as it is brutal outside during the summer months in south Florida.

Enjoy!

Woes of a Plein Air Painter, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Florida Landscape Painting

It's not easy being a plein air painter in Florida, especially in the summer.

Purchase Here

I don't claim to be a plein air painter, but occasionally, I venture out.  This time I was in a plein air workshop, and let me tell you, it was not easy standing on the beach in 90+ degrees, hour after hour!  Did I not tell you, I am a pretty slow painter?

I though I was fairly well prepared, but my sunburnt ears and hands would beg to differ!

Well, they say, "You must suffer for your art.".....I did!!

Thanks for viewing.
