I am devoting this week to doing portraits that are also value studies. I put down a cad. red tone and scratched through the paint with the handle of my brush in areas. I like the warmth I achieved with this technique.

QUEEN ANN'S LACE, 5X7, OIL, SOLD
I love wildflowers. I don't know why some people call them weeds, just because they grow where they want and not always where YOU want them. I would much rather see a sampling of pretty little flowers scattered about instead of miles of manicured green grass.
I always try to take at least one long walk with my camera when I am in North Carolina, you never know what you will find. Last time, I found these pretty little flowers next to the road.

MOUNTAIN CHURCH III, 6X8, OIL, SOLD
This sweet little Blue Ridge Mt. church has a graveyard behind it, which I thinks adds to it's charm. These little churches are scattered all over the mountains and valleys of western North Carolina.

MOUNTAIN CHURCH II, 6X8, OIL, SOLD
If you follow this blog you may remember a post from last week of a mountain church. This is number two in what may become a small series. I find it to be very interesting painting these little churches. They all have their own personality. I had an interesting afternoon traveling from one to another taking photos. Today is Labor Day and it has been dark and rainy and seemed like the perfect time to pull out my easel and give one of these little churches a try. This one is located in western North Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

MOUNTAIN CHURCH, 6X8, OIL, SOLD
This charming little church is located down the road from our vacation home on Conley's Creek Road in Whittier, NC. It is a tiny place that probably doesn't hold more than 25-30 people. It reminds me of a doll house. It is an adorable little church in a lovely location.
