Fish Oil Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 8x16x.75" Palette Knife Painting

This painting was inspired by a trip to Key Largo's coral reefs.  It was thrilling watching the brightly colored tropical fish in their natural habitat.

Purchase here

I started with a brush, but soon had a palette knife in my hand.

I also started with a photo, but soon found my own way.  I made the fish plumper, deleted their stripes, just enjoyed the process and the freedom to do what came naturally.

As I worked the paint got thicker and thicker.  It was a fun and relaxing day in the studio.  I came away feeling good!

Enjoy the moment!

Tropical Fish Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Coral Reef Series, 9x12x.75" Oil SOLD

Celebrating that island feel, mon!  There may be pumpkins and falling leaves outside

SOLD
my door, but I still dream about the tropics!

I have a very difficult time photographing blue and green colors.  This painting is a perfect example.  The background is a lovely blend of aquas, blues and greens, but I lose that in the image.  Does anyone have a solution?

Seascape Oil Painting, Small Oil Painting, SOLD, Daily Painting, 11x14" Ocean Painting Underwater Garden

I am still reliving my recent trip to Key Largo in my paintings.  I think this is number five or six in the series I call "Coral Reef".

SOLD
While in Key Largo we went out seven miles to the coral reef in a glass bottom boat.  I got really sea sick when they powered down over the reef and did not enjoy it as much as I would have liked to.

But, I kept my eyes on the reef as much as I could, and took some photos.  I did love the trip out and the trip back.  I could not take my eyes off the stunning aqua and blue waters.

These paintings are more impressions than actual scenes.

Abstract Seascape Oil Painting, Tropical Waters, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 11x14x1.5" SOLD

Continuing on my tropical journey to the Florida Keys.  Today's post is my impressions of the sea off the coast of southern Florida.

SOLD
It is hard to find more fun (in the studio), than to dig into a big pile of paint, with your knife, and just go to town.  Adding and subtracting values and hues........puts me in the zone every time.

As much as I love creating all this yummy texture, I can only do it for a few days, before I start to crave a little structure and strong composition.  Each day I work on this coral reef series, I get a little less abstract and and little more impressionist.

Join me on my journey.....
