Tropical Landscape Scene, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Beach House and Coastal Home Wall Decor, Florida Art
You would think that with everyone staying at home , with our activities curtailed, that time would drag. I find it to be just the opposite.
So, time flew for me, and for most of the year, I had no time or inclination to paint. Finally, I am back in the studio!
It is very reassuring for me to get back to normal activity, in at least one aspect of my life.
I hope your finding a little silver lining in your life too.

I was drinking my morning coffee, in a hotel lobby, when I noticed the sun coming up behind the palms. I took a photo (through the window blinds) and used it as a reference.
I like to use these small paintings on shelves for added interest. Some times I frame them, some times I don't.

Exciting News!!
One of the most exciting things about being an artist, on the internet, is the contact you receive from people all over the world.
Over the years I have recieved several licensing contracts, had my artwork on CD covers, designed food wrappers for a candy company, been published in international books, and had my art prints purchased by set design on the TV show "Hawaii Five-O".
All this has come to me, simply because I sell art on the internet. I am blessed!
Today I get to add to the list.
This is my artwork as a wine label!!

Doesn't it look great!!  In a few weeks I will travel to Georgia, to visit the wonderful folks at the winery. The wine is a pineapple infused chardonnay, which I am anxious to try. My friends know that chardonnay is my drink of choice, so I will be coming home with a trunk full of it. Now I'm back at the easel. Tropical Landscape Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Palms in Breeze" by Carol Schiff, 8x6" Original SOLD
"Palms in Breeze" is an understatement! It is never easy painting outside, but when your supplies are blowing away, it is time to pack up and go home. Which is what I did.
Is everyone recovered from New Year's Eve? Don't you just love the idea of a fresh start, a brand new year ahead of you?
I have big plans for the coming year, a trip to Italy with my daughter and grandchildren, a new (to me) vacation home. Painting wise, another Elio workshop and plans to start marketing my work with prints on Etsy.
A new year is the perfect time to thank you all for following my blog and facebook page too.
My wish for you is that a year from now, you will say "Wow! Thank was the best year ever!"

Florida Landscape | Small Oil Painting | Daily Painting | Palm Grove by Carol Schiff | 8x6" Oil | SOLD
I was on a photo shoot one late afternoon, walking though wetlands and knee high grasses. I was getting a little anxious as the wildlife and creepy crawlies get more active as the sun goes down. When I came home, I found several reference photos that I was interested in painting, which made it all worth while.
I liked the way the early evening light was hitting these palms, turning them from gray to gold. This is a little study for a much larger piece that I am interested in trying. Hopefully, I can get to it soon.

Daily Painting, Small oil painting, "Room with A View" by Carol Schiff, 8x10x1.5" Oil, SOLD
Strange name for a landscape.....maybe. When I opened to door to my hotel room, this is the scene that pulled me across the room and on to the balcony........the perfect Florida beach scene, the glorious view we all hope for when we rent that room! I knew the day would be good....and it was!
I painted with on gallery wrap canvas with the sides painted, so no frame is required.
My challenge in this painting was to capture the beautiful jewel tones on the sea and suggest the strong tropical light.

Tropical Landscape Painting, "Going Coconuts II" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" oil SOLD
A few years ago we visited Sanibel Island. It is such a beautiful place with the beaches and beautiful foliage. Most of the island is a nature reserve and the people who live there have gone to great lengths to protect the natural beauty.
This is a companion to a piece I did last year.

Tropical Landscape Art, Florida Painting, Florida Morning" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil Landscape
I woke up early, grabbed a cup of coffee and my camera, and headed to Florida's intracoastal waterway. In our area, it is the Indian River, and I arrived there just in time to see the sun break over the horizon.
When I had finished my photos, I drank my coffee and enjoyed that wonderful early morning atmosphere. You know the one, where it seems that only you and maybe a few birds are up and around. It is so still, the birds are starting to feed, and a small pod of dolphins are fishing off shore. Heaven!
I am often asked where I find my small frames. The answer is my favorite framer. Apparently it is standard procedure for framers to throw away the end pieces of moldings. My framer, who has a large following of artists, started using those end pieces to make up small standard sized frames. He always has a good selection and sells them for next to nothing. Perfect for starving artists!
If you are in Melbourne, FL area, his store is Ridley's Frames on Palm Bay Road and Troutman Ave. in Palm Bay. Stop in and load up on his treasures and tell him I sent you in :)

Tropical Landscape "Coconut Delight" by Carol Schiff 6x8" Oil SOLD
A few weeks ago, I was hanging out at one of my favorite places, Eau Gallie Yacht Club, enjoying the tropical landscape. It is a gorgeous facility sitting on Florida's intra-coastal waterway. I was sitting outside, enjoying a glass of wine and watching my grandson paddleboard, surrounded by dolphins. Suddenly I noticed three palms filled with coconuts.
I love the fact that I can pull out my cell and take photos anywhere. In the old days (before last year) I would miss lots of photo opportunities when I left the house without a camera.
Computers have truely changed our lives. I remember reading a few years ago, about an undercover invention that was going to change mankind. Come to find out....it was the Segway! Ha!
Oh well, one life changing invention in a life time is all I can ask for.....and that is the internet.

Tropical Landscape, Palette Knife 8x10 Painting, SOLD
Recently, several of my paintings were reproduced on solid wood plank hand distressed panels by Artehouse LLC. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that I have never posted this original artwork which is among those being marketed.
These palms, next to the intercoastal waterway on the east coast of Florida, are shown during the "golden hour". Golden hour refers to that brief time when the setting sun bathes the landscape is a golden glow.
I tried to capture that glow in my painting, but it is a poor version of the glorious view I had that November afternoon. Even photographs pale next to the real thing.

I was down at the inter-coastal one evening in late November, just as the sun started it's journey below the horizon.
When the sunlight hit the trunks of palms, they seemed to glow, almost like they were on fire.
