I came across this young woman on Etsy selling her traditionally made hair decorations.  Her name is Kuniko Kanawa and you can visit her shop here.  I recommend you take the time to check it out, as she goes into great detail explaining her training and the different aspects of her hair pieces.  She is truly an artisan, trying to keep traditions alive.

GEISHA II, 6X8, OIL SOLD

This is the second geisha painting, as I promised yesterday. I have always been drawn to Oriental items, especially the back side of geishas. We lived in the Orient for amost 3 years although it was a long time ago. I guess my Oriental admiration is re-surfacing. Tune in tomorrow.

I was thinking about taking off this week and trying to re-group, but it has become a personal challenge to me to be more consistent with my posting, so here I am. When I first started painting, I worked with an incredible instructor for years, Sandra Johnson, a wonderful artist who works primarily in oils and pastels. Sandy started me off in pastels which I learned to love. For pure color, they cannot be beat. This is a 14x18 pastel on Canson paper.
