Apple Time in the Mountains, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Apple Paintng 9x12x.75" Oil SOLD

During our stay in the mountains last month, we visited the apple orchard several times.  The apples are great, but the bakery is my favorite.......apple cider doughnuts, apple cake and apple fritters...YUM!

I like to think this apple ended up in one of my favorite goodies.

The weather is beautiful and we really appreciate the sunny, cool days.  Perfect fall weather.  We really appreciate it after spending a week in Florida with humid weather and a major hurricane.

Have a great day.

Berries Mix Still Life, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" Original Painting SOLD

Moving Sale!!

25% Off most original paintings

I couldn't find anything to paint, so, I decided to paint my breakfast.  On this day, I was waiting for Hurrican Irma to pass by us.  After an extremely stressful week, with reports ranging from landfall on the east coast of Florida to the west coast, and back again, it is headed for Tampa as I paint.

SOLD

Our house is encased in metal panels and no sunlight or noise is heard outside.  It is sunny, or raining.....I have not idea. Later, the wind will howl and the walls may shake, but our primary fear is flooding inside out home.

Painting has helped me get through the day and taken my mind off what is happening outside.

Pear Still Life, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Kitchen Wall Decor, 6x8" Original Artwork

I have been very caught up in landscapes, for quite some time now.  The beautiful blue ridge mountains are so inspiring, and in the winter, as I walk the beach, I see possible paintings everywhere.

So, it is with a little relief, that I painted this small still life.

I hope you enjoy this small trio of pears.

Lemon On Tree Painting, 9x12 Oil Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting

This one has been hanging around for awhile, no pun intended!  Sometimes, it seems the most simple objects are the hardest for me.  I struggled to get the correct shape and shading on this lemon until I was ready to pull out my hair.

I should have put my brushes away that day and gone shopping, have lunch with a friend, anything but paint!

It sat in my studio for months, mocking me, this lemon of a lemon.  Finally I worked up the courage to finish it and put it away.

Some days just don't work!

Daily Painting on Sale, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painter, "Apple on the Tree", Carol Schiff artist, 6x8" Original oil, SOLD

I never know what genre a painting like this falls into.  Is it a landscape?  Is it a still life?  I think it may be a landscape because it has not been "arranged".

SOLD
This apple is from my favorite orchard in North Carolina, just outside of Waynesville.  Most of the year it is very quite there, but in the fall, it is the place to be.  The orchard also has a bakery and long, long lines exist all day, every day.  I have stood in line many times myself to buy their delicious apple cider donuts or cakes, fritters and pies.

Thank you for reading my blog today.

Daily Painting | Food Still Life | Avocado Painting | Standing Avocado by Carol Schiff | 8x10" Oil SOLD

Maybe it's because my husband was in the Air Force for 20 years, but, when I look at this painting, all I can think about is that this is an avocado standing "at attention"

SOLD

The thing I really like about this daily painting is that I was able to use my favorite color combination of yellow green and red violet.

The dark sienna and orange helps to make it sizzle.

Do you have a favorite technique to make your paintings pop?

Pear Still Life, Fruit Daily Painting, 6x8 Original Oil Painting

Tomorrow is our Christmas Sale (see yesterday's post) and I like to clean out some closets this time of the year.  It always seems like the perfect time as they are all very messy after I dig out the Christmas decorations.

"Red Pear Reflecting"
89.95

While I was searching for Christmas decorations, I found this painting that had been pushed to the back of the closet and forgotten.  Great inventory control, huh?

I decided to post it today as a form of confession!  I have Fibber McGee closets!

For those of you in Brevard County, don't forget to stop by our sale tomorrow and pick up some REALLY unique gifts.

A special HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my "Sister" LaVerne!

Daily Painting, 6x8" Original Oil Still Life SOLD "Cindy Grows Tomatoes" SOLD

My friend, Cindy, may live in a condo, but that doesn't stop her from being an excellent gardener.

SOLD
These lovely specimens were happily growing on the balcony on a vine that was bursting with fruit.

$96

I tried to capture the sun streaming through the vine and the tomatoes in various stages of red.
Doesn't it just make you want to go mix up a salad?  How much better can it be than to pick food from the vine and walk directly into the kitchen with it to prepare dinner.  The perfect lunch break while shopping today!

Speaking of shopping, don't forget my 1/2 price sale here.  November 30th is the last day of the sale.
Wouldn't you like to have Santa bring you a small oil painting?  You can do that for someone you love.

Grape Painting "In the Vineyard" 9x12" Oil Original

When I was on my girls trip to North Carolina last month, one of our side trips was to a vineyard.  It was a beautiful place with a mountain stream weaving through the grounds and row after row of grapes growing up the side of the mountain.

I have been interested in painting fruit still on the tree, so I took the opportunity to stick my camera into the vine and capture this miracle in action.

It was a beautiful sunny day, but deep in the vine, the sun was dappled.  What could be prettier than nature's bounty.

I have recently listed about 75 paintings for sale at 1/2 price for a short period of time.  Click here to check them out.  This is a time limited sale, so if you see something there that you like, do not hesitate.  In a few weeks the items that did not sell will go back to regular price.  Think Christmas!

Daily Painting, Apple on the Branch, 6x8, Oil SOLD

Last week I posted an apple, growing on the tree in my favorite North Carolina orchard.  Today I am posting another apple painting from the same location.

I think North Carolina must be the land of milk and honey.  Everything seems to grow so well there.  I have a little garden at my second home there, and it seems to flourish whether I am around or not.  Maybe even better when I am not there.  I tend to "mother" a lot of plants to death.

Never the less, I am always astounded when I witness perfectly good fruit hanging around on trees! It seems like such a special sight to me.   I guess I have spent too much time in super markets and too little time on the farm.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.......go pick an apple!

Daily Painting, Pear Still Life, LE BOL DE POIRES, by Carol Schiff, 14X18, OIL

This is not a new painting, but one that I have never posted.  I was touring museums in Washington DC when I decided to take a coffee break and found this beautiful bowl of pears on the counter.

I have entered this in the Daily Paintworks auction at a reduced price.  The 14x18 stretched canvas has the sides painted black so that it may be hung with or without a frame.

My friend Carmen Beecher makes the best biscuits in the world.  She works from her grandmother's recipe.  Carmen and her grandmother don't measure...they do it by touch, but she worked up this recipe for the rest of us.

CARMEN'S GRANDMOTHER'S BUTTERMILK  BISCUITS

2 Cups self-rising flour
1/2 cup Crisco ( more if you want them flakier)
1 cup battermilk

Grease cookie sheet, set oven to 425
In large bowl, cut the Crisco into the flour until crumbly.  Pour in the buttermilk, stir with a fork.  Flour your hands and pick up a golf-ball sized piece of dough.  Roll into a ball in your hands, flatten and place on cookie sheet. with the biscuits not touching

Bake for 15 minutes.  Makes 12.

If you have any left over, split them in half, spread with butter, and slip under the broiler until toasty brown.
Bring on the jam and enjoy!!

These are excellent for strawberry shortcake, just add a little sugar to the recipe.

SHADOW DANCE

Living in Florida, it is a good thing that we do not have a lot of direct sunlight streaming into our home most of the time. This time of the year, when the sun in low on the horizon, we have a month or two of direct sun in our dining room. I usually get inspired and try to set up some still lifes with all the action. This is from a photo I took several years ago and never got around to painting until this week. This is an 8x10 on canvas panel.
