Shelley Smart documents the day to day activities at the beach on her great blog
"A Year at the Beach". She is a fantastic artist and photographer and was nice enough to share some of her photography with me. So, I painted this little seascape from her reference.
How could I turn down a scene like this! I still didn't have it out of my blood, so I decided to try a little acrylic abstract based on the same reference.

Oooh, I approve! I like the traditional sunset, but I also really like the abstract, too! Nice work!
Oh wow, I love the abstract version so much. :)
Merveilleux ce coucher de soleil !
wow....You're the bomb Carol! Love these...you're my inspiration for using this beautiful color palette!
Can't decide if I like the abstract or more impressionistic piece. Either way, well done, Carol.
What a beautiful photographer she is. Your paintings are perfection! Sunsets here in southern CA are quite simply, stunning. You capture the perfectly! :)
Wonderful painting. Both are beautiful.
The abstract version is gorgeous! I've definitely bookmarked your Etsy page for future art needs!
(psst ... I'm hosting a Shopbop giveaway if you're interested!)
Aren't Shelley's photos wonderful! And what an amazing painting - both of them - no wonder she approves.
Wow! I can't decide which I like better! Wonderful!
I love both of them! The original looks so much like the photo, but I love how you have created the abstract view too, bravo!
These are gorgeous! Lots of movement in the oil, but that acrylic one really draws me in. Awesome texture, maybe do a few more acrylics.
