Small Sunset Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Marsh Sunset" , 8x10x1.5" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

I love to paint sunsets, but more importantly, I practice, practice, practice sunsets.
I just retutned home from another Elio Camacho workshop, and, one of the main points I have retained this time is just that.  He spoke of how he spends hours and days and weeks perfecting a certain type of stroke, or perhaps a shape, until it is second nature.

He said a painting, just like a dancer, should look effortless!

I am not there!  But, I now have a clearer goal in mind and a plan to get there.

If you have the opportunity to attend Elio's demo or workshop, I highly recommend him.  Not only an excellent artist, but also an excellent instructor......and he makes it all fun!  Cannot wait to return.

Thank you for viewing my art today.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Seascape with Sunset, 6x8" Oil SOLD

Another in my long fascination with oceans and, or, sunrise/sunset paintings.  I am not sure why I am so attracted to them, but I am!

SOLD

I always enjoy playing with thick paint!  I have been accused of being that person who "plays with her food".  Wrong!

For whatever reason, the process and the results please me....and that is my goal.

Daily Painting, "The Sun Kisses the Sea" 8x10 SOLD

This painting is another from my trip to Sanibel Island earlier this summer.

SOLD

It is very much a nature reserve with stunningly beautiful scenes in every direction.  I am sure the people who reside there become jaded, maybe they long for that haunting beauty of a desert.

Where ever you live, there is beauty, you just have to be able to see it.

Landscape Panoramic Daily Painting "Before Evening Fell", 6x18"

I enjoy unusual formats and dramatic scenes and I think this little daily painting provides both.

I worked some areas with a palette knife to achieve some texture, which I believe, adds interest.

I originally painted this and thought I was finished, didn't like it, glazed over it, didn't like it, and painted over most of the scene.  Finally, I liked the finished results.

Sometimes I just sit art on a shelf, instead of framing and hanging.

SOLD Tropical Landscape Blue Lagoon Daily Painting 6x8"

This is a daily painting from late November.  Shortly after I left, the sun fell and this beautiful sunset was gone forever.

For me, one of the most enjoyable scenes, is watching a sailboat slowly make it's way through the water.

The days can get very hectic around the middle of the week.  If that happens to you, take a deep breath  and try to imagine yourself on the deck of a sailboat on a lovely afternoon such as this.

PACIFIC SUNDOWN, 4X12, OIL, SOLD

It seems odd to me to see the sun set over the ocean.  In Florida, of course, it is just the opposite.  But, thanks to Shelley Smart I was able to paint this sunset.

Sometimes, I like to put my artwork in places other than on the walls.

Hope you're happy when the sun goes down today!

Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Seascape Painting | California Sun by Carol Schiff |m 5x7" Oil

SOLD
Shelley Smart documents the day to day activities at the beach on her great blog "A Year at the Beach".  She is a fantastic artist and photographer and was nice enough to share some of her photography with me.  So, I painted this little seascape from her reference.

How could I turn down a scene like this!   I still didn't have it out of my blood, so I decided to try a little acrylic abstract based on the same reference.

SOLD
Shelley, thank you...I hope you approve.

CARLA'S SUNSET, 11X14 OIL ON MASONITE, SOLD

Our friends, Bill and Carla, have just built the most beautiful house in North Carolina. It clings to the side of a mountain and has beautiful views year round. Carla e-mails the most wonderful photographs to me, naturally I have to paint them. This is my latest attempt to capture the awesome beauty of nature they are fortunate enough to view each day.

GRANADA SUNSET

Several years ago we took a week cruise on "Star Clipper", a 350 foot 5 masted sailing ship. We flew to Barbados, boarded the ship and a week long party was in session. It ranks up there as one of my top three best vacations ever.

This painting was inspired by that trip. Don't you think it looks like a party? It is full of thick paint, vibrant colors, and has that Carribbean feel.
