This is a re-post from last spring.  I liked the bright yellow flower against the blue background enough to show it to you again.

I must thank the City of Asheville, North Carolina, for filling their park with these cheerful and sunny pansies this spring.

How could I resist this glorious yellow flower?

The weather in Asheville last week, was gorgeous in the mid 70's, and everything was in bloom. Dogwood ruled as it is seen everywhere you look, but these adorable, bright pansies cannot be beat for vibrant color.

Sometimes I like to paint plein air, but, usually I am a studio painter, working from reference photos.

When I do an abstract, I may have a rough idea of a composition in my mind and I just try to apply it to the canvas.  Now and then I decide to try that technique on a more representational work.

Give it a try sometime.  See what comes out of your brain!

When I post a painting, I feel I need to say something about it.  Today, my mind is blank.

I know I had fun with it.  I think it is interesting and has action.

And, I like the soft feeling it evokes.  That's all I have today.

Pelican Daily Painting, 5x7, "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay" SOLD

Well, technically, he was sitting on the dock of the harbor, but you get the idea...he was looking for lunch!

I met this guy while eating lunch at an out door cafe in Vero Beach.

Unlike the noisy and aggressive gulls, he was not interested in my lunch, but looking out for himself.

When the earth tilts and the days get shorter, I get lovely shadow shapes in my breakfast nook.

POPPY FIELD, 8X8, MIXED MEDIA SOLD

I really like to go a little abstract, some days more than others.  I'm not sure that it is a good practice for an artist to vary subject matter and styles of work so drastically.  What do you think?  Should I bang away day after day, trying my best to improve my skills and develop a recognizable style...or is it okay to take a day off now and then to play?  Somehow, if I stay too focused, I think I get a little too serious about this..forgetting that I am retired and this is my "hobby".

Hmmmm, I think everyone needs a day off!  If it effects my more serious painting, so be it!

ANOTHER ABSTRACT, 5X7, OIL,SOLD

This one was painted over black gesso to give a more serious mood. The mass of off while (pink) represents my feeling of anger and the white dot is my hope for peace and contentment. Nope, it's a landscape of a lake in NC with trees and reflections. Gotcha!
