Still Life, "Vase in Sunlight" 8x6", Oil SOLD

I mark the days of my life as the sun rotates around my house.   During summer months I set up still life vignettes on my dining room table or on the window sill of the den.

When the days grow short, I move my painting props to the breakfast nook, where the sun streams through and paints shadows of palm fronds on the walls.

Already thoughts of Thanksgiving and Christmas are entering my mind.  Soon those days too will pass.  Life goes on, we all grow a little older, and the sun starts it's slow rotation again.

Enjoy today!

Original Oil Still Life Painting, "Candle in Shadows", 6x8"

One day I became fascinated with the shadows of a palm that were streaming through my window.  I soon had a camera full of images of everything I could carry, push, pull or roll over to the window.

You may remember these shadows on a few other paintings that I have posted over the last few months!
I think one of the greatest advantages of being an artist, is our ability to look at the world with new, fresh eyes.

I'M A LITTLE TEAPOT, 8X10, OIL

When the earth tilts and the days get shorter, I get lovely shadow shapes in my breakfast nook.

Here the shadow of group of palms falls against a teapot sitting on the windowsill.

It's what I like to call a "happy accident", instant set-up!

LONG SHADOWS II, OIL, 6X6, CANVAS BOARD SOLD

A tiny silhouetted sapling,
whipping in the winter wind,
makes a mile-long shadow,
across the creek, over the clearing
and far into the woods in the shadow of
faraway mountains,
slate blue flares pink
then fades.

LIKE A CANDLE IN THE WIND, 8X6", OIL

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did

Elton John

I have always loved this song.  It was even more meaningful to me when he changed the lyrics for Princess Diana's funeral.

"Find beauty not only in the thing itself but in the pattern of the shadows, the light and dark which that thing provides."

The mantra of an artist.

This time of the year, nature gives me  the most beautiful shadows pouring through my bay windows in the early evening.

POSTCARD FROM FLORIDA, 6X8, OIL, SOLD

In my town, we still have a few houses with boat garages, a house that has access to the water and you can drive your boat right inside.  They stopped constructing them many years ago.

This one is so charming, sitting just off the inter-coastal with the boat waiting to take you on a leisurely afternoon cruise.  Old Florida at it's best!

CHRISTMAS CATCUS, 5X7, OIL

This time of the year, I have great light streaming in through my windows. I love to photograph objects on the window sill because of the great shadows. I loved the abstract shadows on this piece.

SHADOWS

This is the weekly post from Karin Jurick's blog "Different strokes from different folks". She is such a killer artist, so creative. I am impressed that she could think up such a great name for her project. Thanks Karin, for creating this project and taking the time and energy to impliment it. It is so interesting to see 50-60 artists take on the same photo each week.
