A ROSE IS A ROSE..., 4X8, OIL SOLD

This is more than a daily painting..it's a multi-day painting.  I have worked off and on for three days on this little piece, trying to make it look presentable and maybe even "fresh".
I started off trying to do one of Qiang-huang's three-stroke roses.  After all, it looks very easy when he does it.  Needless to say, didn't work.  Didn't work the first time, or the second time, or even the third time. Scrape, scrape, scrape!!  So this is what I ended up with..not a Qiang masterpiece, but maybe better than I was expecting.

It's lovely, and it's a Carol Schiff original....:)

I think roses are one of the hardest things to paint...and some people make it look so easy! You sound so calm when you talk about the scraping...I get so frustrated, I want to quit art all together, or at least throw some paint tubes around:-)
The rose looks great..reminds me of one of those old fashioned roses.

Your rose looks effortless + spontaneous Carol. No matter how many times you scraped, it's a thing of beauty now!

Your rose is beautiful. Flowers are very difficult to paint and your rose has a wonderful subtlety to it and the background colors add so much to the flavor of the painting.

The result is quite lovely and shows no signs of angst or suffering in the making . . . I struggle the same way on some days but seldom end up with anything looking so fresh. Happy Thanksgiving!

I think it's very successful Carol! And I hope that even though you had to scrape it down a few times you still got something out of the process.

Una pintura magnífica de esta rosa, así como todos las pinturas son muy bonitas. Mis felicitaciones. Victoria.

Yes that is very fresh! ...and for all your effort, it LOOKS effortless. You have such a sparkly way with saturated colors, this is a great example. Beautiful!
