LES TROIS POIRES, 8x10, OIL, SOLD

La trois poires, the three pears...why does it sound so much better in French?  It reminds me of a particular day in Paris.  My apartment was warm and cozy as I sat by the window reading my book while snow softly fell.  A plate of pears sat on the table and I snuggled in my soft robe.  Of course, this never happened, but I think it should have at some point in my life!  Maybe when I return to France...........

This painting is a companion piece to  one that I did a month ago which featured blueberries, strawberries and kiwi slices. 

This is the original painting.  I had so much trouble getting two images in this post in the place I wanted it to be.  It was almost more time consuming than completing the paintings.  I love Blogger, but every time I think I know what I am doing, they seem to change something! 

I guess what they say about "old dogs" is true!

PEAR DUO, 6X8, OIL,SOLD

This is the last public appearance made by my buddy the pear with a leaf. You might remember him from a week or so ago. Here he is shown, lounging on my glass table, bathed in cool winter light, casting shadows with his friend.

It was kind of interesting to paint this pear three times. The interest for me came in the different colors I saw each time and how it dictated my painting techniques. For me, that is what keeps me interested in painting. I guess I am not at the point where I can visualize how my completed painting will look. Often it is very surprising to me.

We were touring a beautiful art deco building in Ashville one summer, or rather, peering in through the door, when one of the servers in the very upscale restuarant invited us in for a tour. On the second floor was a beautiful bar, set up and ready for the evening rush, with a beautiful platter or limes and lemons waiting for the action.

A little still life that I painted a few weeks ago. It seems to me that all this abstract painting is having an effect on my impressionistic painting. This seems like a blend to me. It is interesting to see where this will go. I really enjoyed this one.

THREE PEARS

This is one I have been working on, not too sure if it is finished. I think it will not be a favorite, maybe I should just ditch it!

The image above is the completed painting, below is my first lousy try at photographing it. I also made some minor corrections.

Pleae excuse this blurry photograph. I have tried to photo this all afternoon and finally got one that was fairly glare-free only to see that it is not as clear as it could be. I just give up for today! I'll try again tomorrow, but I did want to get a new post up. The title refers not to my work, but to the fact that I found this bowl of pears in the snack bar of the National Gallery of Art a few weeks ago. My husband was so humiliated that I was in line, photographing fruit!
