Fruit Still Life, Pears and Strawberries, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 8x10" Still Life

In a blatant attempt to get away from flower paintings, today I am posting a still life of fruit,

I have been accused of having too many grayed down hues in my art, so recently, I an trying to focus on more vibrant color....no more pasty pastels!

I would like to report, that my tube of white paint is lasting longer, but it is too soon to tell.

Regardless, I am pleasantly surprised with the color I achieved here, so hopefully I am on the right track.

Thanks for reading my blog today, and a special thank you to all who have supported my art and my blog with their purchases.

Pears on a Plate, 16x20, Original Oil

Summer is almost over....and what a summer it has been!  I'm afraid I have over scheduled myself, with trips every two to three weeks, family obligations, etc.  I still have two trips to the Blue Ridge Mountains  scheduled, one of which includes the most dreaded words in the English language.....bathroom renovation!

SOLD

My stash of paintings, ready to post, is no longer a stash....just a few images left to choose from.  So now I am in the studio, trying to paint, paint, paint before it's time to leave again.

One of those images, is this, a commission I did  in January.  The client loved a similar small piece and ordered two 16x20 still life paintings.  She was a joy to work with and did not even want to see an image of the completed works prior to receiving them.  She said it would be "more like Christmas" if she was completely surprised when she pulled them out of the shipping container.

She sent me several images of her home in San Diego, wanting me to get a feel for the space the paintings would reside.  I must have done something really good to be rewarded with the opportunity  to work with such a charming woman.

Cheers!

Still Life Daily Painting "Two of a Kind" 6x8, SOLD

SOLD

One of my favorite things to paint is a pear, especially if it involves back lighting.

Back lighting makes everything look dramatic, and my husband will tell you that no one loves drama more than I do!

There is a new week ahead....make the most of it!

ORIGINAL OIL STILL LIFE PEAR PAINTING, "TROIS POIRES AU SOLEIL", SOLD

Do you ever find a painting in your studio that somehow never gets posted?  That was the fate of this little 6x8" oil.

It's not that I forgot about it, or that I didn't think it worthy.  For some unknown reason, I just never got around to posting it!  So today is the day...hope you like it.

THE KISS, 6X8, OIL, SOLD

The secret life of pears.  Who knows what goes on in the produce department of America's markets when we are not looking?

Painted with brush and palette knife.

Have a great weekend.

TRIO DE POIRES SUR LA PLAQUE, 6X8, Oil, Canvas Board, SOLD

I could have called this "Three Pears on a Plate"

That would have been an accurate description of this painting.

But somehow it sounds so much more elegant in French!  Why is that?
Enjoy!

TRIO OF PEARS WITH GRAPES, 5X7, OIL, SOLD

I seem to have run out of titles, or at least, imagination!  Some times I think that is the most difficult part of producing a new work.  I was feeling very lazy when I worked on this one a few weeks ago.  Maybe I needed some morning caffeine or maybe I was just uninspired by the dull color of the pears.  Whatever the problem, in frustration, I scratched through the paint and when I finished my little show of temper I decided maybe it didn't look so bad after all.  I'll just leave it and call it an abstract!

When I set it on a shelf, I even grew a little fond of it.  Maybe I should keep that technique in my bag of tricks.  Never say die!

I just want to remind everyone of my painting give-away at my Etsy sites, CarolSchiffStudio and CarolOnEdge.  For every item purchased, you receive a chance in the drawing for a 6x8" painting.   If you have been considering purchasing a piece of my art, this would be an excellent time to do so.  All purchases are eligible until March 31, 2011.   The drawing is the next day...April Fool's Day, but THIS IS NO JOKE!

REFLECTED RED PEARS, 6X8, OIL

This doesn't really qualify as a "Christmas painting", but it does have the right colors.  I had a great time painting it, using both knife and brush.

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas.  I'm off to the gym, trying to burn off all those extra calories!

LES TROIS POIRES, 8x10, OIL, SOLD

La trois poires, the three pears...why does it sound so much better in French?  It reminds me of a particular day in Paris.  My apartment was warm and cozy as I sat by the window reading my book while snow softly fell.  A plate of pears sat on the table and I snuggled in my soft robe.  Of course, this never happened, but I think it should have at some point in my life!  Maybe when I return to France...........

PEAR AND A HALF, 6x8, OIL

I think pears must be the single most painted object.  I, myself have painted so many I can no longer remember them all!  They are so pleasing to the eye with their beautiful and unique shapes and colors.  Hope you don't mind looking at yet another version.

LAZY PINK PEAR,5X7, OIL

Really, I didn't push the color too much here.  This red pear really did give off a pinky, purplish glow.  And that coral streak was there too, if I squinted a little.  It must have had something to do with the sunlight behind.

PEAR HALF, 5X7, OIL, SOLD

You had to know it would happen, right??  Sooner or later, I had to post a half pear.  I am having so much fun painting this series of 1/2 a fruit or vegetable (mostly fruit) that I just cannot stop right now.  I promise to move on to something else soon, but not too soon.

ANOTHER VIEW OF PEARS, OIL, 5X7, SOLD

Kind of, sort of, abstract pears. I have nothing to say about this. I can no longer justify my pear fetish. Tomorrow I enter the Pear, 12 step program. Tonight, I paint p-p-p-p-p-p-????

RIGHT HANDED PEAR, 5X7, OIL, SOLD

My friend, Carmen, fell and broke her wrist recently. She is a wonderful artist and very upset at the thought of not painting for a couple of months. So, she started painting with her non-dominent hand! Just like that, she began to turn out beautiful paintings. A few weeks ago, Carmen was in charge of our weekly painting session. Her challenge was for all of us to switch our painting hands. I am left handed, so this is what I came up with with my right hand. It was very interesting to find out that it is almost as much a brain exercise as a dexterity exercise. We were all amazed and excited to see what we could do with our formally useless hands.
Check out Carmen's blog here to see her beautiful paintings with that other hand.
Today is Thursday, the day I place one of my paintings on sale at 1/2 price for 24 hours. Check out my Etsy site and read the shop announcement to find the painting on sale.

PEAR DUO, 6X8, OIL,SOLD

This is the last public appearance made by my buddy the pear with a leaf. You might remember him from a week or so ago. Here he is shown, lounging on my glass table, bathed in cool winter light, casting shadows with his friend.

It was kind of interesting to paint this pear three times. The interest for me came in the different colors I saw each time and how it dictated my painting techniques. For me, that is what keeps me interested in painting. I guess I am not at the point where I can visualize how my completed painting will look. Often it is very surprising to me.
