30x40" Original Oil Painting "A Spinnaker Day" SOLD

For years, I have been painting small daily paintings, day after day, month after month.  I liked the instant gratification,  starting a new project every day, no build up of huge inventory to clog my closets and under my beds.

SOLD

Now, I find myself getting a little bored with the same routine and I'm trying to fit some larger pieces into my schedule.

This one was very interesting to do.  It is a palette knife painting and I had lots of fun working on it.  I have changed my technique with a palette knife and ended up with a painting with plenty of texture.

I enjoyed working on this piece and plan to attempt more large works on a regular basis.

Daily Painting, Original Oil, Birds, "The Loner"

A wonderful bird is the pelican.........

His bill will hold more than his belly can.

He can take in his beak
Enough food for a week.........

But I'm damned if I see how the hell he can!
Unknown

That is a little poem from my childhood days.  I lived in Ohio, my grandparents in Florida.  My grandmother had a postcard of a pelican that included that poem.  Florida seemed like a magical place to me then, and the poem stayed with me through the years.

Join me tomorrow for more of Pelican Week!

Daily Painting, Bird, "Snowy Egret" 6x8"

I found this guy on a recent photo shoot at the river.  He was trying hard to ignore me.

He kept flying away when I got too close.

But, he never had a chance; captured with my trusty ZOOM lens!

Still Life Oil Painting Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting "Le Belle Poivron Rouge", 6x8"

I find I have missed painting still life, so it has been fun catching up on it over the last week.

If I could just stop sleeping, I would have an additional 5 or 6 hours a day to paint.

Maybe then I would have enough time to paint both my still life and my landscapes.....but what about the abstract/mixed media  I also want to try?  Maybe I better work on growing another set of arms instead!

Life is hard when you're retired!!

MORNING IN HYDE PARK, 6x12, Oil on Stretched Canvas SOLD

SOLD

Oh, to be in England
Now that April's there,
And whoever wakes in England
Sees, some morning, unaware,
That the lowest boughs and the brushwood sheaf
Round the elm-tree bole are in tiny leaf,
While the chaffinch sings on the orchard bough
In England - now!!

Robert Browning

Painted from a photo reference taken on a recent trip to Hyde Park.

MARSH VIEW, 4X12, OIL, SOLD

“We need the tonic of wildness, to wade sometimes in marshes where the bittern and the meadow-hen lurk, and hear the booming of the snipe; to smell the whispering sedge where only some wilder and more solitary fowl builds her nest, and the mink crawls with its belly close to the ground.”
Henry David Thoreau

BOUGAINVILLEA AND UMBRELLA, 6X8 SOLD

While driving to the post office, I passed this charming garden spot.  The blooming bougainvillea and garden umbrella in contrasting color, caught my eye.

I so enjoy doing these small paintings.  I have little desire to do larger ones these days.  This give me instant gratification and tomorrow, I have the thrill of starting over on a new project.

A few weeks ago, the talented Diana Marshall, from Dublin, Ireland, had a painting give-away.  She offered to do a portrait of choice for the winner, who happened to be ME!

Today I received this great painting of my grandson showing off his prize fish!  Thank you Diana, this will go directly to my grandson Kevin.

Be sure to check out Diana's blog.  Her paintings are great and her  animal portraits are fantastic, especially the cats.

SUNBABY II, OIL, 8X6, SOLD

We have had some very cold days here in Florida this week, as have many areas of  the US of A.  I thought I would post this painting from last summer, when it was hot and humid and we spent long days at the beach.

SHOW AND TELL SOLD

Last summer my daughter and her children spent an afternoon with me at Port Canaveral. It is usually interesting with all types of ships, cruise ships, fishiing boats, tugs, even an occassional submarine coming in or going out. Not to mention all the fine resturants where you can enjoy a seafood dinner on the water. This day we happened by just as a charter boat was unloading their trophies for the day. We watched in awe as they continued to hang fish after fish on the racks. Then the big boys stood on the stage and posed for pictures of them holding their best catch of the day.

This is a 24x30 oil on stretched canvas, $1450/includes shipping to continental US.

BLAZING MOUNTAINS, SOLD

This is the third of four studies I did last week while in North Carolina. The mountains really were blazing, and the weather was glorious. This week they are having freezing temperatures, so I am happy to be back in Florida. The river you see is the Tuskaseegee, close to Bryson City. I hope I spelled that correctly.

This is a 5x7 oil on canvas panel, $75.00/including shipping in USA.
