| Purchase Here 96 When the days grow short, I move my painting props to the breakfast nook, where the sun streams through and paints shadows of palm fronds on the walls. Already thoughts of Thanksgiving and Christmas are entering my mind. Soon those days too will pass. Life goes on, we all grow a little older, and the sun starts it's slow rotation again. Enjoy today! |

Vegetable Still Life, Daily Oil Painting, "Ravanello Danza" SOLD
The past few months, I have been painting landscape after landscape. I noticed that most of my favorite still life works have found new homes.
So this week, I have been painting new ones. It has been a nice change of pace for me.
These radishes seemed to be involved in a complicated tango, so I named this "Ravanello Danza" which is Italian for Radish Dance. It sounds much better in Italian.

MORE MINI PAINTINGS, 3X5" SOLD
I found a pile of mini 3x5" canvases in my studio and had lots of fun painting them. Sometimes I need a little change when I walk into the studio.
I somehow found it less stressful to paint these. I am also working on some larger pieces and for me, it works well to do a few small ones before I jump into the larger project.
I think most people could fine many unusual places to display these little pieces and they make a great unique gift. Who said you cannot afford ORIGINAL ART!

MORNING IN HYDE PARK, 6x12, Oil on Stretched Canvas SOLD

Oh, to be in England
Now that April's there,
And whoever wakes in England
Sees, some morning, unaware,
That the lowest boughs and the brushwood sheaf
Round the elm-tree bole are in tiny leaf,
While the chaffinch sings on the orchard bough
In England - now!!
Robert Browning
Painted from a photo reference taken on a recent trip to Hyde Park.

MY FAVORITE PLACE, 4X8, OIL
How glorious a greeting the sun gives the mountains! ~John Muir
This is how I welcome the morning, sitting on my porch, watching the sun peek over the mountain and flooding the old dogwood tree with light.
John Muir was speaking of the wilderness of California, but he may well have witnessed these mornings in Carolina.

POSTCARD FROM FLORIDA, 6X8, OIL, SOLD
In my town, we still have a few houses with boat garages, a house that has access to the water and you can drive your boat right inside. They stopped constructing them many years ago.
This one is so charming, sitting just off the inter-coastal with the boat waiting to take you on a leisurely afternoon cruise. Old Florida at it's best!

SHADOWS, 16x20, oil
Next week I hope to be back in the groove, painting almost every day. But, this week I cannot seem to carve out any painting time from my schedule. I do have a few older paintings that were never posted and this is one of them.

DANCING ON MY WINDOW SILL, 6X8, OIL, SOLD
You never know where the perfect still life will be discovered. I tossed these tomatoes on my window sill and several hours later the sun made a perfect still life out of them. Backlighting is a beautiful thing!

CARROTS AND RADISHES, 6X8, OIL, SOLD
Sunlight and vegetables...two of my favorite things. I placed these vegetables on my window sill and took several photos. I just love the reflections that are seen when you lay something with strong color on a white surface. Painting this one was a real joy. I tried something new and for the most part just put down one layer of color.

CHRISTMAS CATCUS, 5X7, OIL

CHRISTMAS CACTUS, SOLD
The other day, while trying to organize my studio, I came across an old painting that I had buried behind everything in the closet. It was a still life of a beautiful Christmas catcus that I attemped many years ago. Although the painting was a failure, I still have the photo, which was one of my favorites, and I decided to give it another try. Not wanting to do a large, detailed canvas until the holidays are over, I decided to try just a detail of the original composition on a 5x7 panel. So, here is my offering for today, not sure I like it any better than the original, but it does speak to the season.Wednesday, November 26, 2008
MORNING LIGHT
A few weeks ago, my paint group, Pieces of Eight decided to paint plein air at one of our members homes. Cindy lives in a lovely wooded area that was an inspiration to us all. I ended up wiping off two 5x7's, but I did manage to take some good photos. This is a 16x20, oil on canvas which I painted from one of the photos.
